Brewers lose Grandal to the White Sox, but glad to see they've gone back to the best logo in sports, the Ball-in-Glove, and cleaned up their uniforms.

Brewers-Cubs kickoff Sunday Night baseball 2020...

Speaking of new uniforms, glad to see the Padres (remember them?) are back in brown.

The Auburn Doubledays?
Great name for the Auburn NY Single A team - just misses being Abner Doubleday altogether
The Doubledays recently upgraded their field w/artificial turf - only to find out they’re one of 42 minor league teams MLB wants to end its affiliation with

In their 50th year, 2020 is the finale for the PawSox in RI - then they move to a new stadium in Worcester Mass, 10,000 seater costing $10M to build

....& then to be called “The WooSox”
What’ll happen w/McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket & the surrounding neighborhood etc - the new stadium I’m sure is awesome, will be keen to check it out etc - I like PawSox a whole lot better than WooSox tho 😮
—-
Brad Marchand, 10 points in his last 4 games
David P, 23 goals in 24 games
Z (4-7-11) - high level both ends, solid scoring #s

Still in all it was more the exception than the rule last night - we see them again Sunday & it’ll be a different Habs team then (we’ll also have Patrice back)

things change qwik, we were in the same L4 funk they’re in, just a couple weeks ago - Jaroslav had to be sharp making 36 saves against his former team & coach J

With all due respect, do you really think they have the best logo in ALL of sports? 😮

There are some funny ones. I lived in Lansing, MI years ago and the Cubs A Team was the Lansing Lugnuts. They still exist but have a different affiliation. I saw several players that came up to the bigs. Carlos Beltran also played there. Had a lot of fun at that park.

Any thoughts on Strasburg? No national fan at all but I was glad to see a guy re-sign with his original team.

It’ll drive up Mookie’s asking price, that’s for sure - Stephen got $245M> Gerrit Cole’s deal is still pending> Mookie’s agent will look to top both -

& just like Harper & Machado last year, that figure will be surpassed later on as Merrifield, Mondesi Jr & players like that opt for open-market free agency

Cool that Stephen opted to stay - wouldn’a taken much convincing w/an offer like that

Hoping Mookie follows suit & stays w/his original team - & that his deal gets done b4 next season

Bumgarner for 5 years, 85 million. I wonder why San Fran didn't pony up more cash for him. I think I would have.

Holy makarel
Catcher Y. Grandal - former Cy winner Dallas Keuchel - slugger E. Encarnacion - useful veteran lefty Gio Gonzalez - now the inside track, media says, for Yasiel Puig

Look at CHI-SOX go in free agent acquisitions - South Side b-ball fans are getting visions of 2005 all over again

Yoan came of age last year (.315, 25HR, 74 RBI) - he & Tim Anderson are a top middle-infield combo - Gio & Giolioto along w/DK & possibly a former top flight minor league prospect coming back from Tommy John surgery

No, G. Rate Field might become a 2020 field of dreams & the focal point of Chicagoans all over again

R.I.P. Don Larsen. Probably one of the most memorable days in MLB history. The footage of Yogi Bera jumping into his arms is priceless!

Yes, RIP Don Larsen - a journeyman pitcher w/his own niche of greatness

There go ChiSox again, now they’ve signed to a 50M contract, their top prospect - hit .328 w/power #s & 36 SB in minors last season - will ChiSox run rampant this season

He pitched briefly for ChiSox (1961) - again, RIP, Don Larsen

He is supposed to be awesome. Not a White Sux fan at all but living in Chicago it is kind of exciting for their fanbase. I have to give them credit for going for it NOW. I had a discussion the other day with a guy I know who is a big fan and he claims they are looking to 2021, not this year. That makes no sense to me since two of their free agent signings are one-year deals.

Sounds a lot like his teammate Yoan when he was coming up - can’t-miss prospect, got huge bucks before ever playing in the big leagues
Yoan only had his breakout year last year, his 4th (3rd full) - but the new kid could prove to be a phenom alright

Quick aside, noticed Larsen finished his career w/a 4 inning cameo wCubs in ‘67
Would love to see a picture of Don Larsen & Ernie Banks as Cubs teammates - wild
Years ago here on the boards a poster, alloak41 put up numerous such gems - great thread, “heroes faves & legends” or something like that

Biggest concern for the White Sox is still the pitching - especially relief pitchers...... but they will be fun to watch. Their park is easy to get to from my house - will probably take in a few games this year.... Grin

The Hammer came down on the Astros for sign steeling. Feel bad for AJ Hinch, sounds like he tried to stop it from happening. Red Sox are under investigation as well. Stephen, what's with Bean Town teams trying to steal an edge?

Is Beltran next? If I were the Mets I would probably let him go.

You guessed it. This stinks. You can even see the TV and the can they were hitting in a the MLB's own 2017 World Series doc. Both the 2017 and 2018 World Series (and Houston's 2019 pennant) are going to be shrouded in in this stink, feel bad for the pitchers.

What about the 1951 WS - that season the Giants used a spyglass-and-buzzer system to steal catchers’ signals & tip off their hitters

Giants coach Herman Franks was stationed in the home clubhouse, above the 483 foot mark in CF - from a darkened window he spied on catchers with a telescope, then relayed the signs........

it was a better system, Dodgers great Carl Erskine, 93, recalled in a recent article, than all of today’s hi-tech nonsense

So yes, the famed Shot Heard Round The World 1951 WS, will soon-enough have an asterisk by it or be officially removed from the record books yadada.......

The Babe, Mickey Mantle, so many others - they’d often be hung over beyond recognition when suiting up for games - Ty Cobb, the greatest hitter of them all, was also an avowed racist - yes many were in that era but he Really was (in fairness he greatly softened his stance on this in his later life) - why shouldn’t they too be similarly accused.......

It’s all too far off the deep end for me - some called it gamesmanship, it’s now considered cheating like everything else......it’s a lotta baloney in my view - impugning Tom Yawkey b/c the Sox were last to sign a black player, or b/c they didn’t sign Jackie R when he tried out for them - unbelievable

Just open.a new HOF, Criteria, STATS & Stats Alone
Charter members, Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe, the Rocket, Barry Bonds.......

I just read that article about 'oisk (Erskine). To me, he sounds like he thinks much ado about nothing.

Some of your other thoughts I find interesting. Was Ty Cobb racist? Well, yeah.

Why were the Red Sox the last team to sign an African American? No idea, they just were. Who was the first American League team to sign an African American? Cleveland, Larry Doby.

Should some of the guys you mention be in The HOF? I find that a fun discussion. I have a good friend that thinks none of the players that supposedly cheated should not be in the HOF. I am more of the let bygones be bygones. When I played, we did everything we could to win. If we got away with it, more power to us.

I suppose it depends on your point of view.

Okay, spring training is just around the corner and you guys let this drop to page two?

We all know Boston is in shambles. Do they have a manager?

Does Larry Walker belong in The HOF?

Are the Tiggers going to win it all? 😛

Not a good time to be a Red Sox fan. Can't believe they traded Betts. And while I know he is a great player, Jeff Passan was just on ESPN and he was talking about his "greatness" if you will. He said he was better than David Ortiz (I'll give him that) and Carl Yastrzemski. Sorry, but I have a hard time with that one. Better than Yaz? I don't think so.

It gives me vertigo - Verdugo, one of the players in the Mookie trade, has been diagnosed with “a stress fracture in his spine” - he ain’t alone, every one of em has the same thing - Sox said they knew about it b4 trading for him
Chris Sale has “pneumonia-induced weakness” & both players may not be in opening day lineup

All nothing new, but not renewing Brock Holt - Sox will be kicking themselves - if healthy he’ll be a valuable addition to Brewers - Brock himself had vertigo that sidelined him for 2 months or so a few seasons ago
Mookie will like LA - David will pitch more like he did in TB/Det than w/Sox

Pitchers must now face 3 batters minimum - step in the right direction but the game is over regulated beyond belief - it’s a rule that shouldn’t had to have neen made

Larry Walker, a deserving HOFer - .313, 383 HR, 1,311 RBI
How about this
one of four players with a career BA of at least .300, 300 HR and 200 SB. The other 3 are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and George Brett
Follows Ferguson Jenkins as just the 2nd Canadian to make HOF

The HOF voting is VERY subjective. And I have to respectfully disagree. He was certainly a very good player but I think playing in Denver helped his stats. There are several guys I think are more deserving buy hey, I don't have a vote.

You guys hear about the ridiculous playoff proposition MLB reportedly is kicking around? 14 teams and teams with byes "picking" their next opponents? I kind of liked it when the best teams just, you know, played each other. The October Classic already goes into November, seems like the NFL isn't the only league looking to maximize profits.

It is crazy. Picking opponents? Manfred is really bad. I am way too young to remember when it was just one team from each league going to The World Series. I think ading the league championship series was enough. Four teams. Why make it like the NHL or NBA?
