“On this day” 4 instance, Steve Carlton beat St.L, the team that drafted him, for his 300th win
The Lefty’s, the Rocket’s, all the great Ps - ..they wouldn’t take this stuff sittin down either IMO -
Just too bad to see potential 300 game winners & dominant starters phased outta baseball - those Bullshit pitch counts have ruined it, guys come outta the game whether they’re pitching good or not, it’s sterile/antiseptic/predictable/boring safety-first Crap
But am a lifelong fan & will never not follow it or stop cheering for BoSox

In fairness, Verlander & Cole have both been dominant this season - near impossible to pick for Cy
Cubs’ Castellanos (58) - is trying to become 1st w/60 doubles since 1936 - Acuna Jr 3 steals from a 40/40 season
Also on this day Craig Biggio became 2nd ever to 50 steals & 50 doubles, joining Tris Speaker
How bout those Cardinals......

Cardinals? Arizona stinks. They should be 0-3 instead of 0-2-1 if not for the Lions.
😮
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
First Bruce Bochy, 64 - now Ned Yost, 65, is retiring w/Joe Maddon, also 65, not far behind if the rumors mean anything
Clay was hammered in his final outing tonite - they’ve gone to position players pitching in that game (14th inning)
It’s Felix’ Seattle finale Thursday - he hasn’t announced his retirement or anything, But....
can’t see either career continuing but ya never know
They sure don’t build stadiums like they used to - not in Texas anyway, where they’re closing the stadium that opened in 1994 - wtf
Wait til next year

Yep they won again tonite & are the winningest team over last 2/3rds of season, article said - were 31-31 at one point, have burned down the league since
Very similar pattern as their hockey team, which was in last place at one point, then burned down league & won Cup
Cards could be team of destiny too :ya:
Caught some of the end of the last radio broadcast of Reds announcer Marty Brennaman today. What an icon.

It’s 2 out w/3 to play for the Tribe - Oak & TB have easy opponents, Indians have Wash altho they might be resting people - Chief Wahoo will be there - all 3 div winners w/100 plus wins - Wash & Mil lit it up at crunch time, Brew doing that w/out Yelich shows the unpredictability of sports
That was great last nite in Seattle, Felix truly exited like a king - no hard feelings on anyone’s part, just love, good to see
Tribe is bounced - they had a real good year for not having Kluber, Danny Salazar, Carlos Carrasco,Jose Ramirez - those guys (have) missed A Lot of time - Kipnis missed last few weeks, Lindor was in&out of lineup, Clevinger (teres major) missed most of season, they let Bauer go midseason...

All playoff teams are decided. Hoping there are no potential ties necessitating a one game playoff to determine home field advantage for one game playoff. I just hate one and offs (though it allowed a hot Madbum and my Giants to world series glory against stronger teams)
How often have we seen it - ‘on-paper’ predictions are only made outta toilet paper, used
LA is 15 games ahead of St.L - a meaningless number now -
Yes the TP is shredding as I write on it - but still think Oak-Atlanta (both 97-64) is a great on-field matchup & a decent WS pick - however, Acuna Jr. only stole 1 base over final month before being shut down final week, he’d need to be in top form
Houstro pitching reflects their top overall record, they’re the faves - bad smell & all 😉 😛
They’re also the first team have three 100-win, & three 100-loss seasons in the same decade
All props for Justin Verlander - the last of the 3,000-Ks pitchers - the first to attain it on a wild pitch 😮
He & Gerrit Cole, just the second tandem with 300 Ks joining AZ’s Big Unit/Schilling
Cole was never anything like this w/Pirates
Same Michael Brantley, he was hurt all the time in Cleve, they trade him & to Hou & he ‘stros crazy

Crusher loss for Brewers, yeah the game would still have only been tied, the walk & HBP greased the skids - errors don’t get much uglier than that tho, the guy almost tripped over his own two feet trying to recover after he booted the ball
Yeah, tough loss, that's a tough error to get past, but it wasn't the only thing that cost the Brewers the game - a game they seemed in command of. I've always hated the 1-game WC play-in, but I guess that's what makes it exciting for some people.
Still, it was a great season. Who would have thought the Crew would surge the way they did without Yelich? Hopefully they can solidify their bullpen for next season and get back to 2018 form.
Well we got the stupid play-in games out of the way. Both good games actually. I was impressed with Tampa last night. My brother in law works for them so I guess I was kind of happy for him but I think Oakland could have given Houston a better series.
Sucks for Milwaukee. That poor kid that made that error. Brewers fans must be beside themselves. They should have won.
In the N.L., I like St Louis. I don't really know why but I think L.A. could have a tough time with the Nats. Their front line is just as good (if not better) as L.A.'s. And I think their lineup can hang in their. Guess they don't miss Harper. LOL. And if Washington can knock off L.A. then the Cards would get home field in the next round.
I think Houston has the best team and having said that, my pick for The World Series is:
Cards over Yanks in six.
I wouldn't bet too much on it though. 😛
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
I don't think the Dodgers will have a problem with anyone, though the Cardinals have a way of surprising in the post season. And though it would have been nice to watch more Brewers baseball, they dropped 3 games to end the season against the only decent team they played for three weeks. They'd have gotten smoked by the Dodgers.
I'd bet Yanks over Dodgers in the WS.
Yankees move on, their pitching pretty much shut down the Twins' HR machine. Also, when did the Twins add Gold to their uniforms? They looked like the Cavaliers.
The Rays could give the Astros trouble - was there a more under-the-radar 96-win team than Tampa? Do people in Tampa even know? I'd be all for a NYY-Tampa pennant series.
DC-LAD and Atl-STL are neck and neck. Nice to see a hard fought divisional round.
Other than the Yanks / Twinkies these divisional series have been great. Three out of four have gone to the decisive game five. Hell, anything can happen in a do or die game. I really hope Tampa can knock off Houston because I like the Yanks and I wouldn't want to face the Astros' starting rotation.
The Dodgers / Nats series I really don't care about. I think it would be something if L.A. lost though.
No idea what to make of the Cards / Braves series.
I would kind of like to see the Yanks against either the Dodgers, Cards or Braves just for the historical tilt to it. The Yanks have played all three in the 50s and 60s (and 80s with the Dodgers). I would enjoy any of those series.
So far the playoffs have been fun!

I said it to myself prior to the game. Why in the world would the astros potentially start their two aces on short rest so early in the playoffs when they could startVerlander on reg rest with Cole in the bullpen
I think it was 1973 when my Giants had to pitch Perry/Marichal the last two days of the regular season to make the playoffs and it killed their rotation for the playoffs
Even if they win game 5 this has to hurt houston
Didn't see either of the Dodgers or Astros getting pushed to five games.
"There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute force and ignorance"
Didn't see either of the Dodgers or Astros getting pushed to five games.
didn't see the Braves getting pushed off a cliff
McAnn made his retirement announcement in the locker room after the game. At least his last at bat was a base hit.
Kershaw will go down in histroy as the athlete having the greatest disparity between regular and post season performance. What a way to end a season of promise
If pitching is still the name of the game, would have to pick a Colt 45s-Sens WS - wait make that astronaut, I mean Astro-Nat 2019 fall classic - of course my 1st pick was Oak-Atlanta - hmmmmm

Yes, w/Greinke not being at his best (9 IP, 9 hits, 5 HR in 2 playoff games), the pressure is now all on Justin & Gerrit to keep em in it - still early, but if NY keeps up the level they’re playing at.....
Still can’t understand Anibal & Sherz being pulled early
Just watch today tho - no wait, tmrw the 15th
Healthy-as-a-horse Stephen will tell mgr & bullpen, step aside boys...
& pitch just the third CG of his career 😮
I miss cheering on the BoSox

Yankees taking the Rastros into extra innings against Verlander in Houston is something of a victory (even though it really isn't). Bodes well for the rest of the series for them. Not great if Stanton's bat is unavailable, but they've been plugging holes in this lineup all season. Severino is back on the mound on Tuesday in the Bronx.
Who saw the Nats dominating the NL post season like they are? Knocking off the Dodgers was apparently no fluke.
When you have the pitching they have tho (Nats).....
Three St.L pitchers combined on a 2 hitter w/7 Ks over the last 6 innings - that 1st inning folded Cards tho
Now Wash gets lengthy rest, & will it help or harm em
Think I read somewhere, next game, NY pitches their bullpen
Think I read somewhere, next game, NY pitches their bullpen
Ha, seems like it lately. They had a great bull pen all season, but all it takes is one guy to have an off night. I wonder how different things would be if they had German and Betances.
When Houston's pitching keeps these games close, they tend to win. When the Yankees bats are swinging, they tend to win. The last 2 games, the Yankees' bats have gone cold. Same story as 2017.
Looks like either team will have their hands full with the Nats at full power.
Joe Maddon to the Angels for three years. I don't think this is that surprising.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
Figured Maddon would find a new home pretty fast. Good for him.
The night off definitely gives the Yankees an edge, resting their pitchers. If they can't muster a win at home on an extra day's rest, they are probably done.
Benefits both teams - no rain but blustery challenging conditions tonite, they’re saying -
Greinke has 2.89 ERA in 18.2 IP vs NY this season - Tanaka is great in postseason, his career 1.32 ERA ranks him third all time behind Mariano Rivera and Sandy Koufax among Ps w/40 or more postseason IPs
W/the conditions forecast, neither will go more than 4-5 innings - envision the series returning to Hou w/‘stros up 3-2
