I guess that teachers in some areas may be underpaid, but that's not the case in my area. They're very well paid and have excellent benefits. I had to bite my tongue recently when a friend, who is a teacher, was bitching about her copay going up to 10.00 !
I know that we need teachers, but am so sick of them holding school districts hostage by threatening to strike and always getting what they want. Well paid, good benefits for a summer off, Christmas break, spring break, part time job !

Agreed. Teachers are not trained law enforcement officers and worse than that, where would they keep their weapon, holstered to their body? What if some kid grabs it while they walking in the hall or a couple or group of kids tackle the teacher and take it away? There are other things, such as medical issues the teacher might have, cramps and sleep deprivation could push some female teachers over the edge.
