Dodgers' Fair Weather Fans

One of the most despicable things I've seen in sports was Dodgers fans last night filing towards the exits after the Nationals hit a grand slam in the top of the 10th to go up 7-3. The Dodgers still had one at-bat left!!
As long as we're winning, hey, let's party! Unbelievable..........
And if you didn't see it, the great Clayton Kershaw added to his sterling playoff resume. They used him in relief in the 7th, Dodgers up 3-1. He gives up solo homers on consecutive pitches to leave the game tied.
Always great in the regular season, always seems to blow it in the playoffs.

Despicable? You've never seen fans leave games early when their team is losing? Happens all the time. Sure they had another shot but what are the odds of a team scoring four times in an inning? Unless they are the Cardinals of course.

Hell yes, I said despicable. It's an elimination game in the playoffs. You have only three more outs. Yes, the odds are not good. That's not the point. The point is supporting your team, and the Dodgers have been an offensive juggernaut for years now. And I would use the term despicable for any other "fans" of any other team who would do the same. You think some Dodgers players didn't notice "fans" heading for the exits?

Normally 2 late HRs to tie it could be dealt with - coming as they did tho on consecutive pitches against your ace in a deciding playoff game.....the beginning of the end, then the grand slam - would be mass exodus time in most parks I suppose

Getting in and out of Dodger Stadium traffic-wise is one of the most brutal things to endure anywhere.
Anyone leaving any event a little early on a weeknight, don't blame them, no matter than the event is.
People leave early. I've got a couple buddies that left the 2014 AL Wild Card Game when the A's went up on the Royals in the sixth inning and watched the Royals win their first playoff game in 30 years from the couch...in the 12th inning. Their rationale? They couldn't bear the thought of staying to watch the fairy-tale end.
I know the ecstasy and the heartbreak is all about being a fan, but, hey. People leave early.

last night I kept watching the Braves, even though I knew it was a long shot for them to win after a 10 run first inning by the Cardinals. I've watched them get hot in late innings and win even if they were down as much as 6 runs.
Several times they won when it was 9th inning 2 outs and 2 strikes for several players, and they had been down 4 or 5 runs.
I keep telling my wife It ain't over till the last swing of the bat.

It ain't over till the last swing of the bat.

Not to beat this to death but I imagine I (and probably you) you have seen worse. I have seen gang brawls at Comiskey Park, a guy throw up on an old man at The Silverdome outside of Detroit, people getting mugged. Lots of stuff. Players on the field attack opponents. Marichal hitting John Roseboro over the head with a bat? I was at Tiger Stadium in 1995 for "Opening Day" after the strike ended. A bunch of kids running all over the field, people throwing things at Kenny Lofton in center field.
Lots of things worse than leaving a game early.
And this might be something you may not have thought of but maybe some of the people leaving early didn't care about the game. I've gotten lots of free tickets over the past 15 years for games in Chicago that I didn't care about. And do you think all the people in suites care about the game? Last time I was in a suite it was a business meeting. Nobody cared about the came.
Just idle thoughts. Opinions vary. 😉

Marichal hitting John Roseboro over the head with a bat?
Well you certainly nailed THAT one. I was a rabid ten year old Dodgers fan and was at a family gathering that day and watched the entire incident on TV. Everyone else in the room was socializing, I was the ONLY one who realized what had just happened. I jumped WAY up in the air and screamed, everyone thought I was nuts.
IMO, the ugliest incident in the history of professional sports. What stands out more than anything is that for Assault With a Deadly Weapon.............Major League Baseball saw fit to hand Juan Marichal a six week suspension. Hell, he should have been in jail.
Back to the subject at hand:

Had to revive this thread because I watched the World Series last night, Houston @ Washington. I never saw any fans leaving when it was 8-1 Houston late in the game and that was the final, 8-1 Houston. And with only a few seconds left Joe Buck said, "These people are not leaving, they are in it until the end."
As it should be.

very funny thread. I am a Jets fan and won't even attend games anymore although i have a PSL and buy tickets every year.
that being said, i have a friend who claims he has never missed a home game in over 25 years and he also claims that he stays until the final gun goes off. Although he is a friend, i would call him a moron!!!!
