His ship has sailed? Seriously? He's what, 20 years old? Sailed? 😮
Either I mis-stated something or you misread it. The opportunity for a big game was at Ohio St. He didn't have it. The window closed, the ship sailed on his opportunity for a big impact in a big game for the 2017 season. In my eyes, his chance for a meaningful case for the Heisman evaporated in that game.

Actually you said you thought his ship had sailed, past tense. I thought you meant he's done. My misunderstanding of your words. It happens with the written word at times.

I did have an error in my last post, apparently I've moved onto 2017 already.
I hope that Peppers comes back next year. I don't mean to disparage him too greatly. Michigan loses alot of seniors after this year and he will be needed more next year. Maybe the thought of getting Ohio St in Ann Arbor will be enough to make him come back? He's probably going pro though.
The Orange Bowl is very exciting I think. We know Michigan is good and I think some people may have forgotten that FSU is pretty good as well. Their D improved greatly in the later part of the season compared to September. They had a new D coordinator and it took him a while to figure out his adjustments and stuff. Losing Derwin James was just a killer for that D. In 2015 James was used to spy and mirror Lamar Jackson when FSU played LV. James' absence due to injury from this years LV game isn't the whole reason that game was a blow out, but I do think his loss definitely contributed to it. James was every big as good as Peppers if not better. You may not want to hear this:
Florida State safety Derwin James has missed the last 10 games of the season with a torn meniscus.
He injured his left knee in the third quarter of the Seminoles win over Charleston Southern, and was forced to have surgery. Initially, the report was that James would return in six to eight weeks, but FSU handled his recovery with caution.
Now, with FSU's bowl game not coming until late December or New Year's Day, James could potentially make his return. He hinted that that may be the case on Twitter.
Bowl game 👀👀👀
— Derwin James Jr (@derwinjames6) November 27, 2016James was second on the team in sacks, tackles for loss, and tackles as a true freshman in 2015, and was leading the team in tackles at the time of his injury.
His return would be a big boost for a safety unit that has been hammered by injuries all season long. It would also help a defense that has turned the corner after some early season struggles.

Interesting opinion on Peppers being a Heisman finalist:

The comparison to Woodson in that article is somewhat obvious but I disagree with in in the sense that they are/were two totally different kinds of players. If I had to take one or the other I would definitely take Woodson.
And regarding your thoughts that Peppers will turn pro, I hope you are wrong. Obviously I'm not in a front office of an NFL team, but I wouldn't know what to do with him at this point.

Oregon filled the Helfrich hole very quickly, whats the word on Willie Taggart? Is he as Irish as his name?

Taggart did well at both head coaching stops WKU and South Florida, but it took a bit of building to get to that point. Having a bad 1-2 years while building at WKU and USF is one thing, but at a job like Oregon they want you to win right away. I'm sure he will get a proverbial honeymoon, but after year 1 he better be ready to compete for league titles. I don't know much about him other than when he was at those two schools. He is very close with the Harbaugh family, think he played for Jim's Dad.
I'll get a bowl pick'em up.
Surprised Dannyspell hasn't stopped by. You tied for first in the pick'em!

Nebish I'm still in shock I did so well. Strange territory for me. It was a crazy season as usual. But that is why I love college football so much!!!

My knee jerk reaction was PSU got screwed how can make the playoffs when you can't even win your conference!! But we are talking about OSU here the annointed team. I also have a major dislike for OSU!!!

If Penn St was 11-1 with OSU's schedule and Ohio St was 11-2 with PSU's schedule I bet Ohio St would be in the playoff. So just change their names around and a different team gets in. But that is what name brand and lots of TV rating appeal gets you.
Using the regular season results through the conference championship games makes that a playoff leading up to the playoff, and in that sense Ohio St failed to qualify.
But oh well.
Where do you live now? Didn't you move out of the country or something...still able to watch enough Georgia games?

Nebish I am still down here Jacksonville but I did spend some extended time in Costa Rica. Watching Georgia football was very painful this year. I thought they lost 3 games they should have won. But we are a very young team and new coaching staff so I'm going to write it off as growing pains!!

It seems a lock that Lane Kiffin will get a HC job. My question is will he stay though the playoffs as Kirby Smart did last year. I would think he would to be able to possibility to be part of another national champ team. But we are talking about Lane Kiffin here. The only sure thing about Kiffin is his play calling which is excellent. They do have Sardisian on the payroll. It will be interesting to see how this plays out!!!

Hi Danny, how are you ? Ahhh, Jacksonville, the good ole days.

Hi Don. Are you still here on the westside?

I agree with everything you said. But I would take it a step further. Kiffin is just toxic. And good for Houston for bypassing the guy. He is a great offensive coordinator and maybe he should just stick with that instead of screwing programs/teams over in the event that something else grabs his attention.
I think his track record has proven that.

I hate the comments from media that teams with a poor recent resume get overlooked for teams like Ohio. Makes no sense. Michigan, Penn State and Washington we're decent last year but because Ohio was there before they get preference?
I am glad Pac12 made the show but I would have taken an Ohio Penn State rematch over Huskies making it to the final four.
I like that Dan Patrick says it like it is when it comes to advertisers and eyeballs over ability when it comes to picking final four teams.
Still don't want more teams in playoffs but would love a Cinderella story opportunity once in a while. Penn State would have been a great story or USC.

Seems I was wrong. Kiffin is not a lock for a HC job. Better stay where you are Lane. i do not see where a lateral move to LSU benefits you!!!

Well, Army beat Navy for the first time in like 14 years or something. I bet against Army but good for them. Now Bowl Season picking starts. I wonder how bad I can do in that. 😉

Watching Army win and the celebration afterwards was great. What college football is about in terms of enthusiasm and emotion, but on a level that highlights the dedication and commitment to service of our country those cadets and midshipman embody.
Did not watch the Heisman. I do think Lamar Jackson was the most outstanding player this year, but I have some problems with some of his performances, notably the last 2 games. Did not like him striking the pose in a game he lost, a game with turnovers by him that contributed to the loss. On balance though, not sure who else could've won it. I do like Watson. I think Watson's problem is that we know how good he was last year so I tend to compare 2015 Watson vs 2016 Watson and he was more Heisman worthy last year so I probably hold that against him unfairly. If we just knew only of 2016 Deshaun Watson then I'd be fine seeing him win it. Jackson has more warts, but more jaw dropping moments as well. People say "you can't put the Pitt loss on Watson", well yeah you can because he threw 2 INTs in the red zone.
But anyway...

This yahoo league does not use point spreads and does use confidence points. This is the format most people have said they prefer in the past. Yahoo was having some issues this morning, you may have to try back later to sign up.

The Bowl Games Are Coming, The Bowl Games Are Coming...
Only 6 people in the bowl pick 'em so far. 5 games start this Saturday!
This pick 'em does not use point spreads, you pick the winner of the game and assign a confidence point to the game. If you think team A has a great chance to win, you assign it a high number confidence. If you think team B has a low or uncertain chance to win you assign a low number. The highest point total at the end of the bowl season wins!
Remember, "it's the most wonderful time of the year"

I think his track record has proven that.
His first recruit at FAU is...De'Andre Johnson. Alrighty then.

Bowl time is almost here!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

3 of our bowl pick'em players haven't made picks.
We are just 2 games in, so you only lose 1 and 2 pts in the pick'em so far. 2 more games start in 30 minutes.
If you haven't made picks yet, do so now. Games are going on.

Well, I have to give my Meeechigan Wolverines some credit. If nothing else, they have been interesting the last several years. Last night was another one for the ages.
Damn it.

I was pretty surprised that 7 of 8 people in our pick'em took Michigan yesterday. Guess who the guy picking FSU was 😉

The same guy who picked North Carolina? 😛

What's up Sang!? Hope your Christmas and New Years is treating you well.
UNC? I would pick UNC in that game 100 times out of 100 if they played that many. Trubisky made many uncharacteristic errors and I give Stanford's D all the credit for that. Cardinal D made things tough on them. But UNC D played outstanding as well. Without McCaffrey that Stanford team is extremely limited. Their QBs completed just 50% of their passes. That game was 1 play (2 pt conversion) away from OT.
Michigan lost by 1, but I'm not sure anyone who watched that game would say the losing team in that one was actually better in any way shape or form. I'd pick FSU 100 times out of 100 in that game too. FSU should've actually been favored in my opinion. They are just superior to Michigan in just about every sense.
I took Washington today. I don't think Washington is superior, LOL. No. Only gave UW a 10 pt confidence. It could happen. Going to be very tough. These two teams play 100 times, maybe Washington wins 10. Just looking for this to be one of those 10. I like upsets. Cheering for favorites isn't any fun to me. I like the unexpected.
My picks generally reflect where my bets are. UNC was +3, so no problem for me they lost by 2.
Enjoy the games.
Would be great to hear from DanB on some Clemson smack!

Would not. 😛

Brutal way to lose a first half +7.5 bet, with under 2m left in the half Browning tries to throw ball away to elude a Bama pass rush and instead throws a pick-six. 17-7. Hit 1st qrt +3.5...now +14 for the game remaining is going to be tough. Wonder where UW O confidence is right now?

I'm trying to keep up nebish. gonna be tough. i took some big unexpected hits. good luck and happy new year
