Check out these Air Force helmets and uniforms for today's game:

They are modeled after the WWII flying tiger along with current fighter planes with the sharktooth paint scheme.

Lamar Jackson, damn. All the talk of Deshaun Watson and Dalvin Cook being Heisman frontrunners....move over for Lamar Jackson!

After 845 yards vs Syracuse, Jackson called the offensive performance a "C".

In two games Jackson has rushed for 318y and 6 TDs (9.94ypc) and 697y passing with 7 TD 1 INT (60% compl).

FSU up next Smile

That Central Michigan win was incredible.

Gundy post game owned everything. It was controversial, or just wrong actually ,that CM got the ball back with an untimed down, and Gundy said he felt the refs did not follow the rule, however, he still said he is responsible for Ok St's last play.

Illinois State just beat Northwestern! Wow. No explaining that one. I watched the 4th qrt. ILL St QB was 7 of 7 on the game winning FG drive as time expired. NW in a world of trouble now, 0-2.

Bad game by Clemson today. Sometimes it is tough to play your 'a' game, live up to the hype and follow the success of last year. They don't look so unbeatable right now.

Navy has a goal line stand to stop UConn's comeback bid.

NC St - ECU was a really exciting game.

UK is hot garbage right now, dominated by Gators.

Georgia almost loses to Nicholls??? Work the bugs out Kirby!

TWO INSTANT CLASSICS!

Arkansas beats TCU in OT. Big comeback by TCU, WoooPig drives down and ties it late...Frogs line up for game winning FG...it's blk'd and forces OT. What a game Hogs win it in double.

Holy War. Oh man, that BYU-Utah game was INTENSE! Cougs drive down the field by 7, score with :13 left they go for 2 and the win. Utes stop 'em.

Wow. I need a shower after those games. Man I love this stuff!

Best thing about college football is the waves of games. The 12:00 kicks, the 3:30 games. The 7/8 kicks and then the night caps. Both these T Tech - Az St and Cal - SD St games look like they will go down to the wire!

That Central Michigan game was wild.

Northwestern is laying eggs.

Overall, I didn't think the weekend was that great.

The Battle of Bristol is over. After many years of talking about it and 3 years of unbelievable hype and promotion (at least around this area), it has been done. I'm glad I went, but if it were to be done again next week - or maybe even next year, I'd watch it on TV. I learned from a text during the game that it looked "amazing". Grin That also reminded me that I had not set the DVR to record the game before leaving the house. Maybe I should learn how to do it from my phone... I did happen to catch the fourth quarter on ESPNU last night, it did look amazing on TV.

First of all were the seats that we had. I had "priority" points based on how many racing events at BMS. I requested tickets at the highest (grandstand) price level of $140, but instead was "awarded" tickets at the $80 level. OK, they don't look to be all that bad... When we got there and went to our seats, it was row 62, the very LAST row, under the skyboxes, and we were so far up under the skybox, we didn't have an unobstructed view of the enormous video screen. I was pissed at that development, but we did have easy in and out and could access the mezzanine and get to concessions and bathrooms. We were a long way from the field, could not see much as far as the game goes. Then, after the game, we were close to two hours getting out of the parking lot and on to the main road. Although we were on the main road, we were actually in one lane the north side going south instead of the south lanes. It was a long time before we were merged into the regular lanes, which were moving well. We were home at 4:30 am.

Yeah, maybe I am getting old and cranky. 😛

On the other hand, after a slow start, the Vols went on a tear and took it to VT. I hope they continue to play that way.

I would have enjoyed a little back and forth with spacemonkey about this game.

There is a venue in Birmingham sometimes used for high school football called Fair Park. It's actually an old (ARCA?) race track - with a football field in the middle. Even the seats nearest to the field seem miles away from the game! When I was a team videographer, I actually climbed to the top of the shade overhang and set my camera up - right between two of those huge banks of lights. For the UT game I noticed that they had to design that big ... camera ballon thing. Football at a race track - not something that should be done!

Overall, I didn't think the weekend was that great.

We were watching different games then 😉

This weekend will be more to your liking I would think? MSU - ND, Ore - Neb, Bama - Miss, FSU - LV, aTm - Auburn, Miami FL - App St, tOSU - OU, Tex - Cal, USC - Stan, UCLA - BYU, Pitt - OK St...

Colorado and Michigan might be a little more competitive. Colorado looks to maybe have turned a corner...still have a way to go, but they are getting there. Remember USF HC Jim Levitt (their first HC, put them on the map) - he is their DC. UM is easing it's way into the 2015 season...consider Hawaii, UCF and Colorado were a combined 7-31. Alot of people getting angry Big Blue is in the top 5 rankings, but early season rankings don't mean anything other than get people all mad and such.

We were home at 4:30 am.

For perspective, how long would it have taken you if there was no traffic?

It did look great on TV. Glad your Vols turned it up after the 1st to make it more enjoyable. I never met John, just on here, but I often think of him related to VT football.

Football at a race track - not something that should be done!

Heard they are already thinking of doing one at Richmond. There is a lower division college game being played at Bristol this week also, might as well use the field some more while it is there.

Well, if we hadn't spent nearly two hours just trying to get out of the parking lot, it would have not been so bad. Actually, when we got on 11E, traffic moved quite well, especially after we cleared Johnson City. It was pretty much clear until we had to get on I-81. Then it was a little backed up, but moving, until we merged onto I-40, which was minimally congested all the way to Knoxville. It probably added a half hour to our trip home - once we got moving. So, the traffic wasn't nearly the issue I anticipated. Getting out of that damn parking lot was.

I never met John in person, was in the same room with him but didn't know him then, I enjoyed conversing with him on this site and reading his posts. His wit was really entertaining.

This email was just forwarded to me...I played D3 college football but not at Williams...have yet to receive similar notice from my alma mater, but thought it was interesting enough to share. Anyone else here play sports in college and get something similar??

Subject: NCAA settlement notification

Dear Dan,

I am writing to make you aware of a legal notice that you are likely to receive in connection with a proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit currently pending against the NCAA. The lawsuit involves claims on behalf of all former and current student athletes at all NCAA member institutions, including Williams. The proposed settlement, which will be described in detail in the legal notice that you will receive, would require the NCAA to establish and fund a medical monitoring program for the benefit of student athletes who might have continuing issues arising from concussions suffered while participating in NCAA-sanctioned sports.

As part of the settlement process, the court overseeing the lawsuit has ordered that notice of the proposed settlement be given to all potential members of the plaintiff class. To comply with that order, the NCAA has asked all of its member institutions, including Williams, to provide contact information for all alumni (and current students) who participated in an NCAA-sanctioned sport as an undergraduate. Williams has complied with that request, and we thought it appropriate to make you aware of this and to provide context for the legal notice that you will receive. You should also know that Williams is not permitted to answer questions about the lawsuit or the proposed settlement, and we therefore encourage you to avail yourself of the resources provided in the notice for further information.

Please note that this process is unrelated to previous outreach to you from Williams regarding concussion history. A subset of alumni was asked to respond to a survey that was part of a study about long-term impact of concussions, research that was overseen by a fellow alum, Dr. Rebekah Mannix ’90. Psychology Professor Noah Sandstrom partnered in the effort; results of their study were published and can be found at this link:

With best wishes from Williamstown,

I think the NCAA or the individual schools, should be on the hook for any and all future medical claims resulting from athletic competition. I do not think athletes should be paid, but adding a lifetime supplemental provision for athletic injuries is a benefit that all athletes should have.

As for 'Big Blue'....I do live in the state of Ohio, so....

but I'm not a Buckeye fan, nor a Michigan fan. Of course you say "Go Blue" right? What's the harm with putting 'Big' in front of it?

Thinking Ducks aren't going anywhere with Helfrich at the wheel. Brady Hoke will be behind the wheel next year if bad decisions continue. Nebraska got some help from officials but not taking the points when it was obvious that Nebraska wasn't going to be a push over should have been an easy call to kick for one instead of continuing to try and make up for the last missed 2 pointer.

Terrible play by Oregon special teams at end of fist half led to a huge momentum change.

Coaching coaching coaching!!!! UGHHHHH!!!

Fun football Saturday. Some very good games! I think 5 or 6 top 25 teams lost. The top 25 coming out this week should be interesting.

Shocker of the day had to be FSU getting annihilated by Louisville!

Great to see BAMA (and Saban) get that Ole monkey off their backs! Very physical game between two great teams! Some iffy moments of officiating - but that stuff happens.

Got home on time to flip between the final quarters in the Georgia-Mizz and Auburn-Texa A&M games. A&M just too strong for Auburn. Georgia came through at the end! Congrat's to Krby!

Alabama, Louisville and Ohio State appear in a class by themselves right now.

A run down:

It was going down in the Ville....move over Noles and Tigers there is a new player in town. LV at Clemson Oct 1st!

I'm sure nobody saw the MTSU at BGSU game. It was raining so much during the game that waves of water were trapped under the artificial turf (picture water rippling under a swimming pool cover). That was weird.

Georgia State is hanging with Wisconsin for 4 qrts?!

Akron blows Marshall's doors off.

Rutgers was down 21-0 to New Mex. Then went up 28-21,,,eventually getting the point spread covering win.

You schedule a 5x defending FCS national champion and you are likely to get beat. Remember App St was on their way to 3x champ when they beat Michigan. Just another FBS win for North Dakota St. Bet ND St would beat half the teams in the Big Ten. That was a fun game.

App St hosting the U in Boone can't live up to the hype, not sure it mattered, but all conf RB Cox went out early 1st qrt.

Tennessee...WTF is going on? Ohio? Vols suffered alot of injuries in this one. CB Sutton out. LB Reeves-Mabin, out. Sapp hybrid DB/LB out. LB Kirkland was out coming in. All starters. Here come the Gators and their 11 game winning streak vs UT!

Derek Mason at Vandy may want to get that defensive coordinator resume ready, Yellow Jackets tore 'em up.

Western Michigan from the MAC is 2-0 vs Big Ten teams. That Western Michigan - Toledo game is going to be GREAT!

Buffs hang tough in Ann Arbor for 3qrt. I think Michigan still wins, but if QB Laafu for CU doesn't leave the game with injury it is competitive until the end.

The new look Virginia Tech offense on show in Blacksburg. BC looking for a return policy on UK transfer QB Patrick Towles....and BC is known for D? Hokies hang 40+ on 'em. Shut out!

FSU better look out this week, trip to USF up next. USF is legit!

San Diego St on track for an undefeated season.

Nebraska wins a big one under Reilly! (is beating Oregon still a big one?)

Oklahoma State throws bombs all day long over the Pitt secondary. Don't think Pat Narduzzi wants to see a Big XII offense any time soon.

Alabama - Ole Miss was sure a strange game. Big leads by both teams, come backs by both teams. Non offensive TDs everywhere....and Vern Lundquist and Gary Danielson still make me want to throw bricks at my TV.

Kentucky wins! That is the good news. The bad news? Perennial door mat New Mexico State was in the game for a big chunk and scored 44!

Georgia Southern only beats ULM by 2, weird.

Wake Forest is 3-0!

UCF and Scott Frost take Maryland to double OT, but Terps pull out the win after UCF turned over on their possession. Maryland 3-0.

Army scores 66...SIXTY SIX pts on the road vs a FBS team. Go Army! Black Knights 3-0~!!

Troy knocks off Southern Miss.

Not enough O out of Auburn. They still look unsure what they want to do at QB...too bad for them they can't play Arkansas State every week. Jonathan Franklin, man is he fast...but man he has no touch at all on his passes. aTm 3-0.

Arkansas and aTm this week!! That is going to be gooooooooodddddd!

LSU almost, almost, allows Miss St to come back from the dead. Wow. LSU was up something like 23-6 in the 4th qrt. Fans might've lynched Miles had MSU won that one.

Saw something like Florida held North Texas to 50 or 60 yards of offense. Wow.

Notre Dame is 1-2. Michigan State D shuts down the ND O for large part of game and ND has some serious issues on D.

Baker Mayfield is a liability for Oklahoma this year. Poor decisions and a gun slinging mentality is either boom or bust. Sooners going bust right now. And that D....who said this is the best Sooner team of all time?

That Georgia - Missouri game was great. Lots of bumps for Eason in that one, but it will pay dividends down the road for Dawgs.

BYU has covered everyone of their games in the final minute this year...I had UCLA -3.5, thanks Bruin D.

Cal RB breaks into the open field on 3rd down while Cal is killing the clock...and runs free towards the EZ, and again, we see a player drop the ball before they cross the goal line. A couple seconds go by, literally 2 maybe and a Texas player picks up the ball in an unassuming kind of way. Nobody on the field (including the refs) knew he dropped it. It goes to review, but since there was "no immediate recovery" they awarded Cal the ball on the 1 yard line where they took knees. Hate it for Charlie, but then again, Texas didn't earn the chance to get that ball back. Coaches always say 'it's not about what they do, it's about us'. Charlie, you still got a long way to go with that Longhorn D.

14-1/2 hours of football viewing yesterday. Can't wait until next Saturday!!!

From someone who watched it in person, UT has some serious deficiencies in the offensive line. With a beast like Hurd and a top notch back like Kamara in the backfield, the Vols should be running over the Ohio U.'s of the world. Even though they amassed 235 (201 net) yards rushing, they appeared to struggle against a lesser opponent, just like with App State. It certainly does not bode well for the upcoming contest with the Gators. I am tired of losing to Florida and Alabama year after year, but after this past Saturday, it appears I need to get used to it.

USC just couldn't put it away, up by 14. Two 4th and 1 conversions for Utes on that drive, easy right up the gut. Lots of turnovers for USC last night. Where does that team go? Rumors they were on verge of imploding before this loss...now 1-3! The good news is Sam Darnold looked good at QB for them, they found that out atleast.

Regarding the yahoo picks, I had trouble last night too. I had to keep trying, refreshing, clicking different things and then going back. I was able to get the game list to come up and save the picks. Clearly an issue on their end, hopefully everyone is able to work through it. If you missed just last night's game maybe try again this morning before the rest of the games kick.
