No country can ever achieve 100% border security. If people are determined enough they will find ways to get in. However, building the wall along the southern border will be a deterrent and will significantly reduce the amount of illegal immigration. Will it reduce it to zero? Of course not. But will it reduce it some? Absolutely...maybe 25%, 50%, 75%...who knows? It will at least make it harder to get in. I don't think it has to be a physical wall for the entire length of the border, but there needs to be some combination of a physical wall, use of the natural terrain, drones and other technology, boots on the ground, etc.
Do you lock your doors at night? Do you have an alarm system or a guard dog? A gun by the bed? Are all of these 100% effective in stopping illegal entry and crimes from occurring in your home? Of course not. Do they deter criminal activity and make it less likely that these things will happen in your home? Absolutely.
Like it or not...the reality is that there are lots of people who want to come to our country that we would prefer not be here. So what's wrong with taking reasonable measures to secure our borders? And why not start on the border that is causing the most issues? It only makes sense. It shouldn't be a right versus left thing to want to secure our borders and increase the safety of our nation.
As for drug cartels...those are easy to eliminate. We should legalize drugs in this country. Do that and the drug cartels disappear overnight...they no longer have a product. Unfortunately this idea can't seem to get any traction in this country. But I support it.
