Anti-Trump conservatives recruit candidate for WH bid

By Tom LoBianco, CNN

Washington (CNN)Conservative Republicans have recruited a former CIA staffer and top House GOP aide to launch an independent White House bid -- and he could cause problems for Donald Trump in a key state if he gets on the ballot.

Evan McMullin opened his bid for the White House Monday morning, announcing on his website: "It's never too late to do the right thing. And if we work together, there's nothing we can't achieve.".

It's never too late

Well, when it comes to getting on ballots, it kind of is.

True, but the PR is just another rejection of the GOP on Trump.

McMullin's chances of becoming president are slim at best. The deadline for getting a third-party candidate on the ballot has already passed in the most of the important general election states, including Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Texas. As of Monday morning, McMilland has not filed an official campaign report with the Federal Election Commission yet, although he has set up a bare-bones campaign website.

McMullin's campaign could signal an effort by Republicans to stop Clinton from taking Utah in November. McMullin is a Utah native, a graduate of Brigham Young University, and a Mormon. Trump is polling badly in the Mormon-dominated state and many Republicans fear that they could lose a longtime stronghold altogether.

Utah is also home to Mitt Romney, one of Trump's biggest critics among establishment Republicans, whose support would add significant weight to McMullin's campaign. The group Better for America, involved in coordinating McMullin's presidential campaign, has been funded in part by Republican donor John Kingston who has also fundraised for Romney, according to ABC News. A spokesperson for Romney did not immediately respond when asked if he was planning on endorsing McMullin.

only 26 states it is too late. but if the goal is to undermine trump and give conservatives someone to vote for besides clinton, johnson or stein.....he might achieve his goal (or backers goal).

couldn't he also be a write-in in some of those 26 states where he can't get on the ballot?

This is some scary stuff. A former CIA Officer and counterterrorism expert wants to become President. But that is not even all of what's going on. Even more unusual Jeb Bush's son wants people to support Trump!

McMullin, 40, who was the chief policy director of the House Republican Conference, was being drafted by an anti-Trump group called "Better for America." He is expected to announce his presidential bid on Monday.

“From Team Bush, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said.

Well certain people from the Agency are very against either candidate, Republican or Democrat. The latest comes from Michael Hayden, former CIA Director who said he will vote for another party candidate.

"“I'm uncomfortable with the nominee of both of the major political parties,” he told the Cats Roundtable radio show on Sunday.

“A vote is taking our sacred suffrage, our chunk of sovereignty, and bestowing it on someone because he or she is worthy, and I'm having trouble getting to that point with either of the major candidates,” he added, in his strongest rebuke against Republican nominee Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Having served under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, the former spymaster has shown no hesitation in attacking Trump and Clinton throughout the campaign."

REMARKS: How long before the CIA starts their own ad-hoc political party? Why is it that we hear virtually nothing from the so called Constitutional Party, whose platform is to preserve our Constitution in a time when since 2002 our rights and liberties have been taken away?
