I'm not sure when winter starts and ends, but I have these to start with and whatever quality artists that may find their way into my line of sight, I love me music.....

Felix & The Rascals 1/4, Masters Of The Tele' 1/10, Denny Laine & The Moody Wing Band 1/11, Tommy Emmanuel 1/15, Peter Wolf 1/31, Marc Cohn 2/15, Donavan Frankenreiter 2/16, John Doe 2/18, Ron Pope 2/22, The High Kings 3/1, Anders Osborne 3/15, The Yardbirds 3/18, & Robin Trower 4/6.

Wow, quite a lineup!

And the seasons change on the 21st every quarter if I am not mistaken so I think you nailed most of them.

Smile

Most probably not popular here but:

TTB January 18th Chicago Theatre (okay that one is)

Tesla February 5th & 6th Chicago House of Blues

Candelbox February 11th Chicago House of Blues

And Steve Earle does a small residency here every winter. He'll be here in January & February. Probably catch one of those.

That's a nice grouping you're sharing the room with also!

I did a My.Yahoo search and you are correct with the 21st, It took me to the Farmer's Almanac page. Interesting read...

I am going to see the Rory Gallagher tribute by Davy Knowles and friends for their 2nd night 3/13 at the Loft in NYC too, That should be a nice "Taste" of tunage.

.....

Saw Davy Knowles several months ago at a small (tiny) club in Chicago. He was awesome. Has a great band. Played some Back Door Slam songs.

Fender31, I caught the Hot Tuna / Wood Bros / TTB in Connecticut that summer, and we got the exact opposite of what you saw. Hot Tuna were low on energy or purpose; it made me feel like when I saw The Firm and my hero Jimmy Page was a mess. Tuna was like an average bar bend, and the crowd was not interested at all. The Woods Bros really kicked things up with their tight playing and high energy, and then the TTB tore the roof off the place.

I’ve been dismissive of Hot Tuna since. I should hit YouTube and get a look at some of their better recent shows.

I saw Hot Tuna as part of the TTB’s, Sunshine Music Fest earlier this year in Fort Lauderdale and had the same reaction as you. I had not seen them since 1977 and was bored to tears. Can not fathom how they could “blow” TTB away under any circumstances.

FWIW.... we usually talk about "name" bands here because it gives us the chance to share experiences with other people who have seen the band or to tip someone off to a good band that might come their way.

However...I'd just like to raise my glass to the local bands I catch, often just for a half-hour and a quick beer or three, sometimes when I'm on the ride home from some other mission.

There's not a lot of call for me to discuss a band here that will probably not venture out of the greater Newtown area, since few folks here on this board will get the chance to see them, and it doesn't make much sense for me to wax poetic about a cover band I just saw play some Stones and Prince songs really well, since plenty of cover bands do that, but - between those times that I'm getting to see the masters at the larger venues, I do try to catch some local heroes and get my fix. And that does some good things for my head.

I don't get the transcendence from some of these guys that I get from a Derek Trucks or a Jimmy Herring, but it's still nice to hear amps get hot and to see someone sometimes really hittin the note.

I'm not going to see a name band until March 10th, when I will get to see The Musical Box at the beautiful Tarrytown Music Hall, but until then, here's to catching whatever local music I can.

If you have spotify Hot Tuna has a bunch of live releases from the last couple of years on there.

That sucks that Hot tuna played so poorly Jim.
