Does anyone have anything?

I have two.

1. They named the album Eat A Peach because Duane ran into the back of a peach truck.

2. The Song Melissa is called Sweet Melissa.

I couldn't tell you how many shows I have been to where I have heard both. There are probably others.

@mulemewarren Yes when Gregg passed away the newspaper here had the story on the bottom of the front page. "Rocker and Ramblin' Man dead at 69".

The story contained " Allman was the lead singer, keyboard player and main song writer of the famed Allman Brothers Band who's biggest hits were Ramblin' Man, Midnight Rider, Melissa, Jessica and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed".

@tori Derek isn't? Who's son is he?

Just kidding. I've read that several times in write ups.

I still laugh thinking about Gregg being asked in an interview about the first time he heard Derek play slide guitar. Gregg said it was when the Allman Brothers were in Miami recording Enlighten Rouges and Butch talked him into going over to a little bar where Derek and his band were playing and he felt as if it was his brother reincarnated. The guy said " Wait a minute. Enlightened Rogues dropped in 1979 the same year Derek was born". Gregg said " Oh that couldn't be right then.  That couldn't be when it was. I'll have to think about that. I don't want to make Derek much older than he is. I'll think about it".

Female friend:  "There is only one brother alive.  So how can they call it The Allman Brothers Band?"

Me:  "Oh, you mean because one of them died they should change the name?  Is there anyone named Doobie in The Doobie Brothers?"

Shut her up real quick.

Not sure if this really applies to the topic , but maybe in a round about way.

This happened a few years ago, mid to late 2000's. I was seeing the ABB at an outdoor venue down town Indy. About half way through the show about 3 guys come over by me. They looked like the just walked off of the golf course and had a few to many. One of them leaned over to me and asked ," which one was Dickey Betts?" I politely pointed with a nice smile at the bass player, Oteil. Could not resist.

I love those truck stop cassettes. I had a Vol 1 and 2 of the ABB I bought from one of those places in the early 90's. It was a pretty good compilation.

@jszfunk I bought one in the 1990's that had tracks from the first album to Brothers and Sisters but the front on the cassette box had Gregg, Dickey, Butch, David Toler, Mike Lawler, David Goldflies and Danny Toler.

Four of those are NOT ON A NOTE on tracks from the first five albums. Smile

Not a truck stop, a gas station, but I was driving up to the U.P of Michigan and I went inside to pay for the gas. And a cassette of Seven turns was there at the counter. I had recently gotten into them so I bought it. And loved it.

Still have it. 😀

@mulemewarren  Yep. My original copy of the first album released in November 1969 has Gregory Allman and Dick Betts. And three women listed as providing Immoral Support.

My original copy of Idlewild South has Greg Allman and Dicky Betts.

At Fillmore East has Gregg Allman but still Dicky Betts.

Jaimoe was Jai Johanny Johanson on the first four albums. Then on Brothers and Sisters he was Jaimoe and Dickey was Richard Betts.

About 2011 Gregg's solo band was in my area and the little story about Gregg's history in the entertainment section of the newspaper was about how Gregg and his brother put together several bands in the 1960's until in 1968 they found just the right musicians to back up Gregg and his vocals, organ and songs and his brother's bottle neck guitar. And they finally broke through in 1973 with Gregg's Midnight Rider and Ramblin' Man and an album that was number one for over a month which also featured a popular instrumental called Jesse's song.

Sounds rather accurate to me:)

I don't know if you'd call it an assumption or not - but most folks say that the ABB was FROM Macon, GA.  They came together in Jacksonville, FL.  Most of the band members were native Floridians.  I believe they only lived in Macon for several years.
