Tommy Bolin "Great Gypsy Soul" re-release including a previously unreleased track "Can't You See" w/Carmine Appice (yes, the Toy Caldwell song)
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

A quote from Warren, who was a co-producer on the Great Gypsy Soul project, "Being a student of music and someone who is accustomed to working with multiple bands/projects it should come as no surprise that I've followed Tommy Bolin's amazing journey (albeit short lived) as an artist, a member of The James Gang, a member of Deep Purple, and a sideman to such legendary greats as Billy Cobham. Of all his recorded works, I probably enjoyed his two solo records Teaser and Private Eyes the most. Having said that, when I got a call from Greg Hampton about getting involved with a "tribute" to Tommy I was a bit skeptical to say the least, as tribute projects often fall short of the mark. He explained to me that this would be different from a typical tribute in the way we would be taking the original outtakes and alternate versions from those two albums and adding guitars (and in some cases vocals) from a cast we would hand-select. These takes, that varied from "unfinished works in progress" to completed versions, all contain Tommy's original vocal and guitar performances as well as the original performances by the musicians on those sessions. Many of the guests added after the fact have a close personal connection to Tommy - all share in acknowledging his place in rock history. Watching (and hearing) it all come to fruition some 35 years later was a journey of it's own - well worth the travel."
Musicians included on Great Gypsy Soul include Warren, Derek, Peter Frampton, Nels Cline, Oz Noy, John Scofield, Brad Whitford, Steve Lukather, Sonny Landreth, Steve Morse, Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Stanley Sheldon, Prairie Prince and David Sanborn.
The track "Sugar Shack" with Hughes on vocals and an amazing slide duel between Tommy and Landreth is worth the purchase price alone! It's honestly like they're both looking at each other and after one of their individual solos smiling and saying "top that!"
