Allman Brothers Band 12/10/1994 Sioux City, Iowa. Apparently they were playing a Gateway 2000 holiday party. Sure would like to hear the story of how that came to be

Posted by: @robertdee@stratdal 30 minutes??? I was hoping if I ever had my chance in 1979 when I saw them live I would hold her attention for 10 minutes.
Last time they were out there Linsey Buckingham was not invited. He was PO'd but they voted to remove him anyway without saying exactly what was the rub. If he is physical with Stevie then of course he can't be in the band anymore.

Gateway hired the band for their employee's Christmas Party. Hittin' The Note subscribers at that time who lived in Iowa got two tickets (perhaps it was only one) and a backstage pass to meet the band.

@stephen I spun some of my old Donovan records last night. Found my 45 adapter. Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow.
I was born in 1946 too. December.
Also Howard Duane Allman is 1946
Dave Mason this morning. I always thought Dave has a tremendous voice!!

Butch Trucks said this is the worst version of Donovan's song they ever played. But it was captured by the remote sound truck stationed at Fillmore East and it has Duane on it so they used it.
23 year old Berry Oakley is playing like a 40 year veteran of music. Gregg plays one of his best organ solos. Dickey's solo is a tad laid back but it's so melodic. Betts has a killer melody line working all the way! Personally I like this version.

Absolutely bro - great guitarist, as you say great voice - listening to It’s Like You Never Left right now - great album, w/Sidetracked, So Like that song - his album Headkeeper🎼❤️🎶
dig that MlwYlw vid!🎶very cool - his greatest hits album is near front of collection - yep hail Atlantis isn’t on it but is among my 45s - he re-recorded Season of the Witch & Sunshine Superman in the 1980s sometime
never even knew his Mountain song until the Brothers did it!! the original one (?), by Boogaloo Joe Jones, is somewhere out in cyberspace & as I’m sure you know is tops - never knew about it until this site

@stephen I'm pushing 78 now and my memory is getting fuzzy but I think Duane Allman got the idea of jamming on Donovan's First There Is A Mountain from the Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia individually.
Today is Butch Trucks 77th birthday. Duane Allman showed up at Butch's house in March of 1969 and said " This is my new drummer. Jai this is my old drummer" then left Jaimoe there with Butch. That is how they met.
Next day or so Butch and Jaimoe jammed with Duane, Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts and Reese Wynans.
When it was over Duane said " Whoever ain't going to play in my new band will have to fight your way out".
You know the first time I saw someone with the last name Trucks was on TV in a major league baseball game years ago. Virgil Trucks I think was the baseball player's name. I now understand he was kin to Butch.
RIP Claude Hudson Trucks, Jr.

Has anyone posted Derek Trucks covering Jeff Beck's Goodbye Pork Pie Hat?
I think Derek does a fantastic job using his slide and guitar to echo what Jeff did with his whammy bar and unusual licks.
Here is the late Jeff Beck doing the song. To cover these notes and passages obviously is some task for another guitar player but I think Derek rose to the occasion.

There is what sounds to be the First There Is A Mountain lick on one of the songs/jams on the Grateful Dead's second album, Anthem Of The Sun, from 1968, I'll have to give it a listen again to see which song it is

The GD have a song Alligator which I’ve heard people reference as an inspiration to Mountain Jam. That might be it.

The wife and I were at this concert but had a lousy view of the stage from the mezzanine where we could only see half the stage.
The concert was filmed for a supposed official release that never happened. Luckily it leaked so we finally got to see the complete show.

Posted by: @stephenthe original one (?), by Boogaloo Joe Jones
no, it’s definitely by Donovan originally, from 1967
then Boogaloo Joe Jones and Dandy Livingstone recorded it that same year, while the Dead borrowed from it as was said on Alligator (1968)
just looked at a 2009 Kenny Loggins vid of FTIAMtn - awesome, great spirit to it w/his young daughter singing
Joe and Dandy must have recorded their versions almost immediately after hearing Donovan’s
the Jones and Livingstone versions are just as ‘likeable’ as the original - sublime, creative, dfrnt
never even heard of these 2 musicians until finding out they merely covered one of my all times favorite songs
Dandy’s version was released in 1967 - Joe recorded it 1967, it’s on a 1968 release
