I knew this guy back in the 1970's. He was in a somewhat successful band out of Raleigh called Arrogance. By the late 1970's he was trying to break out as a songwriter and lead guitarist. It never happened unfortunately.

Here he is with one of his originals and on lead guitar but the singer is another man.

Top TEN Allman Brothers Band songs of ALL TIME!!

https://singersroom.com/w17/best-the-allman-brothers-band-songs-of-all-time/

Whipping Post is number one! Okay I guess so.

Also an indicator the people behind this don't know the ABB as well as we do!!! They have Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks pictured and no other members!!

And Soulshine is the ONLY song on their list that has Warren Haynes on it and Derek Trucks isn't on ANY of their top 10 Allman Brothers Band songs. I mean ZERO for Derek.

Kinda like the review I read in the early 90's of an Evening With First Set and the picture of the band had Gregg, Dickey, Butch, The Toler Brothers, Goldflies and Chuck Leavell. Only THREE of those appear on First Set!!

Oh well maybe I'm splitting hairs:)

Music From Big Pink Extended Edition

The Band

A tribute to Robbie Robertson who passed yesterday

Robbie Robertson was a titanic figure in my life. The Band was a huge and soulful influence in my world from eleventh grade on, and his songwriting resonated so strongly and will forever. I feel that The Band collectively invented an entire style of music that continues to flower to this day.
I met him in 1985 at Village Recorders in Santa Monica during a power outage. We sat in a candle-lit dark room and instantly bonded for a solid hour-plus before electricity was restored and we could get back to our respective projects. He was a big presence, slightly intimidating to a major admirer but extremely collegial, quickly putting one at ease, and we became casual friends until, in 1990, I heard he was making a New Orleans-themed second solo album (I, and most everyone I knew, loved his first one). I thought I had a song idea that might interest him.
I called him up, he told me to come over to Village (where he had a permanent office) right away. He liked the idea and we instantly started working on it, later recording it in New Orleans with The Meters. We had such a memorable run with the song, “Go Back To Your Woods”, making a video in Nola, performing on Saturday Night Live, and playing the Legends of the Guitar festival in Seville, Spain. What a time.
We remained friends all the way to the end; my son Russell had the great fortune to join us for a lively dinner (he was absolutely one of the great raconteurs) with mutual friend Tony Berg a couple of years ago, and we would text back and forth now and then into this year. This passing hits hard; this guy was a true force of nature in the world who always presented younger than his years with an unparalleled passion and joie de vivre. He was active all the way to the end, working with Martin Scorsese on film projects from the 1970s through this year. I will truly miss him, and thanks, Robbie, for all the memories and inspiration.

@stratdal I think he looks more like Duane than his father!

Devon said Gregg owned 42 guitars when he passed away and he left all of them to Devon. Plus several million dollars of Gregg's 15 million dollar estate.

First time I saw Devon perform live was with his band Honey Tribe and they were opening for his dad.  I said to my friend while watching Devon perform, "He's got a lot of his uncle him."

Regardless of his lineage, Devon Allman is an accomplished musician and entertainer in his own right.  Keep the Vibe Alive Devon!

Avalanche

a forgotten Mountain album - Alisan is the best acoustic thing they ever did, their Satisfaction is the greatest cover of all time, end to end, no filler…

no one could do the “stinging/nasty slide playing” like Leslie, like on Satisfaction, also Crossroader from their live album
