Warren Haynes, Sirius XM, 50th Anniversary

I was driving around yesterday listening to Jam On and they said that on Tuesday, they would have Warren in the studio to talk about the 50th Anniversary and also to get a first listen to Fillmore West '71 which will be available later this year.....
Anybody else heard about this!? Did I hear that right??

Heard some rumors about it but nothing concrete. This is great news!

Just read about this. Super excited

Joy to the world!!!

way cool news... didn't think it would ever happen

So I have this on. So they already said that this is going to be a 4 disc release. What they are going to play today is the 1/29/71 show. They said the tape of the 1st night does not exist but the other 3 nights will be on the disc. Just kicked into Statesboro. Sounds good!

Oh man this is going to make some people very happy. Gregg sounds so badass!
So far Statesboro, Trouble No More and Don't Keep Me Wonderin.

Now into Liz Reed. Warren said in the introduction just wait until you hear Dickey on this one.

Listening now on the Sirius App. Really great stuff!
I recall reading from Butch at some that it was during this run at Fillmore West that Butch took Duane aside and told him to get his groove back because he was slipping --- though you wouldn't know it based on what's being played on this program.
Anyone else recall similar?

Thanks so much for passing along the set list. What is the rest of the set list broadcast and did they mention if it was actually from the Fillmore West or Winterland? Remember, the two songs from 1/29/71 played on KSAN in 1972, "You Don't Love Me" & "Whipping Post" were introduced on KSAN as being from Winterland.
Thanks

I had to leave but I believe Warren said it was a seven song show. ( they played between an opener and Hot Tuna ) So another buddy said for sure You Don't Love Me and Whipping Post were also aired today and not sure if there was one more. But absolutely they said it was from the Fillmore West shows with Hot Tuna.

Thanks. Probably Dreams between Liz Reed & YDLM. The opening band was Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band. Can't listen until Thursday's replay.

No - Butch said he said something but it was much later -Sept.Oct.1971....

Well so much for the Sirius broadcast being all from the 1/29/71 show as the transition between "Trouble No More" and "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'" is from 1/31/71 as it goes something like "... you all made this really nice for us, we really enjoyed the last three nights, we,we're enjoying tonight too."

Been listening this morning to this treasure on Sirius XM. Another performance from the Duane era that is beyond words. Gregg's vocals are incredible, Duane and Dickey are locked in, the band goes on some amazing journeys, and the overall audio quality is excellent for the era. Can't wait for the release of the entire package.

Also excited for this release. Can't help but wonder if there are hidden gems in the vault (assuming there is a vault).

I was able to listen to this the day they premiered it and here is my post from another forum. my doubts that this was all from the 29th. That being said it sounded fantastic and if we get 3CD's from several of the nights it will be a fantastic release.
OK so I had to run errands this afternoon so spent some time in the car and had a chance to catch the premiere of the ABB Fillmore West broadcast on SiriusXM and here are my first impressions
The show was DJ'd by Warren Haynes wife, Stefani Scamardo, with him giving color commentary. It was mentioned that this will be a 4CD box set from 2 track SB tapes to be released later this year. She also said that the band played 4 nights, starting the 27th, as the middle act with Hot Tuna as the headliners, which jives for the band lineup, but not the dates, on the concert poster someone posted earlier. It was mentioned that the first nights tape from the 27th has not been found so I am assuming the box set will hopefully be from the last 3 nights.
Here was the first discrepancy I noticed as she claims the shows started the 27th to the 30th but the concert poster states 28-31st. Also I read on the ABB forum that the show from the 29th was actually played at Winterland and not the Fillmore West so I am curious what the reality is.
The second thing I noticed is the broadcast is claimed to be from the third show, which according to Scamardo's timeline would be the 29th, yet right before "Don't Keep Me Wondering" Duane says they enjoyed the first three nights and they would enjoy this one or something to that effect. So I am wondering if this tape is from the following night?
In any case the total broadcast time was around 45 minutes and a setlist of 7 songs which is about right when the Allmans played support. I got to listen to almost the complete broadcast except for about 15 minutes right before You Don't Love Me" where I had to get out of the car to take care of business.
First impression is this is a fantastic recording which is clear and well balanced for the most part. I did notice that for the first 2 tracks the drums were a bit recessed in the background and the same on the last track "Whipping Post". On the other tracks all the instruments are well balanced but, as you would expect with a 2 track SB recording, the separation is not very wide so as long as you're not expecting the multitrack separation of the 2014 Fillmore Recordings I think you won't be disappointed in the sound quality.
The performance is hot and the highlight for me was one of my favorite live Brothers tracks "You Don't Love Me". You can hear elements of the later version that is on the original Fillmore East album but with interesting twists. The playing is much looser and more improvised IMO and the famous Duane solo is very similar to the Fillmore East version but slower with Betts and Berry noodling in the background behind him as opposed to the intense Fillmore East solo with Butch and Jaimoe driving Duane on with their powerhouse drumming.
All in all a very exciting treat awaits us when this box set finally is released. .

Bill on Fillmore East on You Don't Love Me, after Duane solos without any accompimant and the actual song You Don't Love Me is over at this point, the rest is the ABB jamming to what they create on the stage, that is Dickey soloing with Butch and Jaimoe playing the hot drumming in the background. Then Duane comes back followed in short order by Duane and Dickey playing twin lead.
As to Butch jumping Duane about his playing, it probably was about October 1971. Duane and other band members and associates including Red Dog had developed a smack problem and Duane came to Butch's room at the motel, knocked on the door and said something like " Man when Dickey solos you are all over what he is doing, really hitting the note...then when I solo you aren't playing much at all man, what's the deal with that?" Butch said he looked Duane right in the eye and told him it's because you aren't giving me anything. I have to have something from the lead instrument to jump on. Since you got into that shit you are doing, you ain't giving me anything".
Shortly after that the tour ended, Duane, Red Dog and some others checked into a clinic or hospital to get clean. Then they flew to Miami and recorded Standback, Blue Sky and Little Martha. They decided to take a break from recording Eat A Peach and Duane returned to Macon with Gregg, Butch and Berry. Dickey stayed in Florida and suddenly Duane was killed.
