Odd transition

It was a great show. Jessica with no piano/keyboards was different but sounded great. The crowd went crazy for the two ABB songs they knew. I doubt that many of them knew Instrumental Illness was an ABB song.
Skin It Back was a great version. Chessboxer (who opened and was Warren's backing band) are a pretty talented group and Justin Townes Earle were good choices to warm the crowd up. Sipe was a monster on drums as usual. I was amazed how well he and the Chessboxer bassist were able to lock in having just played a few shows together.
The banjo player for Chessboxer who played multiple instruments for Warren was super talented. It was cool seeing Justin come out and play one of his dad's songs during the encore.
Maybe this is a sign of me getting old and grumpy at 39 but the only slight negative of the show was during Blue Sky security lost all control on the crowd and people started rushing to the front the stage. The place is a 100 year old 1,800 seat theatre so our front row seats were probably 5 feet from the stage. My wife was excited because for one at 5'2" she isn't having to look around people to see everything.
I wouldn't have minded as much had the people who rushed to the front were just enjoy the concert but they crammed in front of the front row. Here are some of the people we encountered during Blue Sky.
- The guy who started it all ran up the front, slammed his beer can down in the stage and grabbed a random lady and started to dance with her almost starting a fight with her husband. He tried this with every lady he could find up front leading to a couple of confrontations.
- 60ish year old guy who brought a poster to the front and started asking everyone around him if they had a pen as if Warren was going to stop the show to sign this poster. Three times he asked my wife to ask the people at the end of the isle if they had one and I finally told him "we are trying to listen to the music, nobody has a pen".
- Drunk redneck lady who kept screaming "Baptized in the Blues" while dancing to the crowd not watching the show.
- Stoned frat boy who was texting and losing his balance as he was looking down at the phone and falling backward into people. Later he kept turning around trying to wave his friends up to the front.
- Random lady who just walked up and started talking to me and my wife about nothing.
- My mother in law. Yes, my mother in law.
So this messed up my enjoyment of the middle part of Blue Sky until I had to tell myself to ignore it and focus back on the music. Anyway, I didn't mind the people who were up there enjoying the music as much except those blocking my wife's view.
People rushing to the front and pushing aside those of us with front row tickets aside, it was a great show. I would recommend it to anyone who can check it out.
One funny add on... We noticed the bass player for Chessboxer had fake f-holes taped onto his stand-up bass which was pretty funny.

Great set list...THANKS

Hi War Eagle! I can relate to the people who rushed up front. There were about two dozen at the Warner who exhibited similar behavior to what you witnessed. I think I'll send an email to the Warner letting them know I'm contacting the fire marshall before next weeks Mark Knopfler show. I don't mind folks enjoying themselves, but stepping on my feet, stumbling into me, and whipping me with your hair is unacceptable.
