The Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge both came out within a couple of years of Jimi's death and both had material on them which was good enough that I think most if not all of it would have seen the light of day even if Jimi had lived. Those records of course have been repackaged and re-released under other names.

But I never even bothered with anything after that. The little that I've heard has been massively inferior.

I always check out these new Hendrix releases. this one has 2 songs with stills and johnny winter is on at least one

Jimi better pick up the pace for the next release. He has been getting lazy in the song writing dept.

The good news is that there has been so much material over the years. Lucky as some artists have very little.

The bad part is that Jimi wouldn't have released much of it as they were just demos or jams.

Personally I am glad to have heard so much. There is plenty more out there too. Should some of what I've heard (and others trading in the cassette era) get an official release? Probably not but it will some day

I have a cassette somewhere of Jimi and Stills just noodling in some apt. Very high and not all that good. But it was probably 5 AM. LOL.

I hear y’all. But I thought South Saturn Delta and also People Hell and Angels were both quite strong. Guess that says something about what Jimi brings.

This was the first one where I felt the barrel bottom was scraped.

Eddie Kramer said this was the last of the studio releases. Everything going forward would be a live release.

The Valleys of Neptune release from a few years ago I like, some nice alternate versions & new stuff that is pretty good, esp. that version of Fire

Loved Crash Landing when it came out mid 70s, Peace In Missisippi SMOKES, Captain Coconut I really like -- some of the stuff on War Heroes I like a lot too

Jimi had that talent to take the tapes and really get it to have his sound and have the end result worthy of Jimi.
John Lennon had that same gift.
It's not an easy thing to do which is proved once the artist is gone and can't do the production side.

The Blues release was great. I still listen to it quite a bit.

Yeah Jimi "Blues" is a good record for sure. I remember when I first heard it, was quite a change from his official releases, great to hear him just playing some lowkey jams, rather than the ballsout bombast of his commercial stuff.

Man, would love to see that uncut Berkeley.

Jimi was such a perfectionist, I doubt he would have released any of this material.

They did put out a Berkeley DVD, and in the liner notes they basically said that the camera crew was REALLY high and a lot of the footage was unusable. It's still a worthwhile release, in my opinion, and comes with a full audio CD of the late show. Royal Albert Hall would be nice, but I have a feeling that footage is so caught up in red tape we may never see anything official.

As for the new release, it has a few nuggets, but it is exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel. There really isn't any more studio Hendrix worth releasing. I enjoyed the Stills songs and the tune with Lonnie Youngblood, just because it was Hendrix I haven't heard before, but most of it is forgettable.

At this point, the only Hendrix I really covet is a full and complete release of the Maui Rainbow Bridge show from 7/30/70. From my bootleg recordings, it sounds like the single greatest performance of Jimi's life, in my opinion. I'd love to be able to see/hear it in better quality.

Totally agree. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the releases up to this one. This one just didn't do anything for me.

Really, really happy to have the full Band of Gypsy's show. By far my favorite live one.

Rob, They used play the full 2 1/2 movie Berkeley show at the St.Marx Theater in NYC. We must have seen it a least a dozen times in 1972, 73. It was definitely an excellent watchable movie with some truly majestic Jimi. I wonder if the original tapes were lost. There couldn't be any other good reason not to release it in it's entirety.
