The Band with Derek Trucks

Derek must have been a teen at the time:

This comes from a Dylan covers album called Tangled Up in Blues, and since it was released right after Derek turned 17 it was probably cut when he was 16. I had no idea Derek ever recorded with The Band, so I was fairly well shocked when I stumbled across it. I was just reading that it was The Band's last recording, since Danko died in December '99. Tangled Up in Blues also has songs from Mavis Staples, Taj Majal, Alvin Youngblood Hart and some other great blues-oriented people.

He talk a little about this on the Marc Maron podcast....worth a listen if you haven't already.

I recall Derek saying he was pretty unfamiliar with The Band at the time, so he felt no pressure. Only later did he realize what a moment that was.

That's a great Dylan tribute album, which there are no shortage of. There are some really nice moments on the 1990s material from The Band ("Remedy", The Boss' "Atlantic City" which Amy Helm regularly performs, etc)
