Tedeschi Trucks Band Free Webcast 2/20 and 2/21

I was at Tuesday's show on 2/20 at The Cap. I also left disappointed. I agree they are the best live band today, but wear and tear of constant touring looked evident. Some of my disappoint was driven by how they've spoiled me previously. My last show was the 25th Beacon show in October and it was absolutely fantastic. Tuesday was not perfunctory, but rather pedestrian. I thought the set list was weak. I found the showcasing of 11 individual musicians as forced......and creating lost momentum and rhythm. I also found the sound in Balcony, Row E as less than expected. I listened to some of the show on YouTube the next day and I did not get the same sound in my seat.
Again, I'm spoiled and love the band.......but I passed on an oppty to go back on Wednesday. As another commented, the majority of the crowd seemed pleased............however, for me, this was not their finest collective effort.

The contrast between power and beauty on a song to song, section to section and a night to night basis is EXACTLY what I love about this band. These are musicians of the highest caliber across the board and you're going to get what THEY'RE feeling that night, which is the ultimate goal for all of us. To translate emotion. You're not always going to like everything. But, to hear people picking apart these nuances of a band that will blow any other touring band off the stage, is silly to me. People are entitled to their opinions but my advice is to enjoy and appreciate what we have when we have it. Kudos to Derek & Susan for having the balls and the passion to do what they're doing out there in such a musically desolate era. I am a musician, it's not that I don't understand the points people are making....I get it, but for me, I'll take anything this band wants to throw at me and I'll learn from all of it.

As someone who never cared for the TTB, I am amazed to be in agreement with many of the posts in this thread... it's a first! But I actually thought the Wedesday night show I watched was better than most of the previous shows I have seen. Go figure.

I myself often found the Derek /Warren slugfest got redundant; too many songs ended with both guys playing the highest fastest note on the guitar, over and over, especially unfortunate since each man is so capable of more unique and thoughtful choices.
LOL. And this is why I listen to my beloved Allman Brothers music in my car, by myself, because any time there are other people around, they always cringe at exactly what you describe. But I love it!

Whatevs. Haters gonna hate...
That is such total bullshit. If you read my post and dadof2's post, we both said the show was better than previous performances. dadof2 went on to make other positive comments, with which I am in agreement.
I get that you really like this band and that's fine. I don't put you down for having your opinion, but I do not appreciate being denigrated because my opinion differs from yours. Everyone else in this thread, regardless of whether or not they like this band, has been respectful of the other posters. I invite you to join them.

Whoa, ha, my opinion: take a serious chill pill. "Haters gonna hate" is typically a pretty light-hearted phrase, so you're overreacting just a bit. Next time I'll use more emojis. But food for thought: I'm not a big Mule fan but I don't dump on every Mule thread rehashing why I'm not into them, but every TTB thread turns into the same negativity wrapped in "hey, it's just my opinion MAN" kevlar. Also, I hadn't read your post so be assured, you are un-denegrated.
...to my ears this horn section sounds awful...they should also stick to covers...
pretty harsh statement for simply having an opinion about music, wouldn't you think?
Uh, nope. Honestly, do you really think the phrase "haters gonna hate" is harsh? Do an image search and get back to me. 😉

I didn't say harsh, I said disrespectful. Maybe you didn't intend it that way, but that's how I took it. So I suppose that's my fault?

This exchange was not directed at you. And no, I didn't intend it to be so, sorry if you took it that way.

I really think people need to calm down a bit. This forum has been very respectful, for the most part, for many years. People have different opinions and are entitled to them. I've known absnj for quite a few years and have never found him to be disrespectful in any way. He has a great ear and typically I agree with his thoughts on music. I happen to think the TTB has been the hottest band on the road since their second album was released. He didn't and that's just fine. He related that he enjoyed the Wednesday show. Lets accept that at face value. Breathe deeply!

That's how I felt about the 2nd show. I'm not even a huge TTB fan, and preferred DTB and ABB, and even late 90s-early 00s mule to TTB, but I saw second show on youtube and enjoyed it a lot, and it was a lot better than other shows of theirs I had heard and watched.
I did think that the opening singer Amy Helm is a far better blues singer and guitarist than Susan is.

Can we all agree that this is awesome?

I watched both shows and first and foremost, I'm totally thankful that was even an option. Not every day you can have live TTB in your living room. I preferred Wed to Tues hands down even with Mike on more up front vocals Tues. That's big for me. Huge Mike fan, here. The tempo just felt sluggish Tues with a spattering of holy crap awesomeness. I'm not a fan of the sax solos, but, I don't gravitate toward that 'whacky' (for lack of a better word) jazzy type music. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to appreciate it. So be it. I'm not smart enough for a lot of things. I understand Derek digs it and this band is his vision. He's at the wheel, not me. I really enjoy Kofi's solos and when he and Derek lock in, I'm in heaven.
All My Friends was a nice touch and tribute to Scott. This band has experienced some real personal loss over the last 18 months. Real gut punches. Kudos to them for forging forward and doing what they love.
Surprised they didn't bring out Amy for a big Dixie encore Wed night. They're usually pretty good about including others to share the love. But, hey, the Sly medley is pretty friggin' groovy.

Amy & Susan in the same night is such a perfect combo. I've never heard or seen Amy Helm play guitar, only mandolin - what did she play guitar on? I miss her guitarist, Dan Littleton, from The Handsome Strangers. Dude seemed to fit her rootsier music better. Not sure why she had a different band.
For Florida folks, Amy Helm will be at Suwanee Spring Reunion in March (bummed I'll be missing that). For NYC folks, she's doing another Woodshedding Residency in April.

I saw her play guitar back when her father Levon was still alive and she was touring with his band.

Thanbk you Owen, it's nice to see you posting! You are still far more of a gentleman than I am.
