Man.   This band got in my bones at the Nassau Coliseum on April 30, 1973.  I had second row seats and although I had listened to some of their music to that point, this was my first time seeing them live....I know I am preaching to the choir here that there is NOTHING like an Allman Brothers Concert.  Although Gregg had the "name", watching Dickey Betts play guitar was a wonder.  Watching Chuck on the keys was like floating on a cloud.  Lamar could rumble with the best of em, and that drum section was mind boggling.  When Butch and Jaimoe went off on a drum solo in "Les Brers", I was transfixed.  Never had I felt the power and coordination of two drummers like the two of them.  While many drum solos call for a break to the rest room or to get something to eat, this one had me watching and being blown away.  Butch could sync up with Dickey like they were connected as one.  Odd, and too bad there was some bad blood between them because on stage they could cook!  Miss Butch, Gregg and simply watching the ABB live

Thank you, Alan, for re-sharing this. Very touching.

Right or wrong, I felt like Butch's passing and the tragic circumstances surrounding it got lost, or maybe better put, overshadowed by Gregg's death soon thereafter. Reading things like this are very cathartic for me.

And is it finally time to share some of those crazy stories Butch told when you were palling around or still off limits?

Still a sad thing to this day... I still think Butch was the one member who "needed" the ABB to remain to keep some sort of base.... just my opinion...

@islalala Ha ha. Well, they involve other people, and some of them are not very nice, so I think I should let it lie. But it;s a fair question if I'm going to write about it.

Thanks for sharing Al, so many strange feelings about that time period, as you expressed. I hope you're doing well.

Hey AP. After the memorial service I asked if any or all of Jaimoe's words could be shared? I understood he was the last speaker at the service. Just wanted to check again. Thanx

Jaimoe planning to perform for the first time since the Brothers show at Madison Square Garden. Said he was in bed for 2 weeks after that show because Duane Trucks kicked his rear.

Has some nice things to say about Butch and indicates he is fond of all the guys even though like all families they had their problems.
