Ryan Montbleau Band/Will Evans @The City Winery, NY 4/25/19

This was as joyous a night as it was appalling. The music was stellar and refreshing, but the crowd was full of chatty Cathy's and babbling Bob's. It's disrespectful and distracting to the artists and fellow show goers when the level of yapping gets this bad. Yelling and cackling over the music that seemed to an inconvenience to their conversation. Folks all around were trying to be politely ssshhhhushing them but to no avail. Most yappers seemed to be college age millennials. On the vid's I tried to cut up to the start of the song as between yelling out requests and such it seemed to throw off the thought chain?
Will Evans opened solo and had the looper pedals going to give the full band sound. I had seen this before with a couple other artists, Cool presentation. I dig the whole process. I myself have a looper for my guitar so I can tap the pedal and play along with myself (in a non physical way)…. Ladies and Gentlemen The Fretsmen! Live at the Saddle Brook Coliseum (my hometown). Will also had his looper hooked up to two African style woodwind instruments that offered a unique sound to his set. Nice stuff.
Ryan Montbleau Band was a 5 piece with 3 guitars (1 a lap steel), drummer, and bass (sometimes upright) the lap steel covered a lot of ground (or should I say sound). At times sounding like horns and keys. I really liked what they were laying down. Sort of like Flying Burrito Brothers meets Van Morrison with a couple genres in between. Great musicianship across the boards (w/a lovely lady on background vocals), I love them strings!. I will no doubt be checking these guys out in the days ahead. I loved the angles they were hitting on their music. Check them out if they come around. The tour page link is in their website, but please heed the venue when they implore "Out of respect for the artist and your neighbor please curtail conversations until after the show", I beg of you, I put up whole show, See what you think about "proper crowd etiquette", It's quite sad as I Really dug the music .... Do Right, Thanx!
