RnR HOF Nominees Announced

Always a fun debate
Go Willie!!!!
Have to believe George Michael and Sheryl Crow are slam dunks
Iron Maiden, Rage and Tribe very deserving but could easily get snubbed again
Willie and Zevon wildcards, imo
Thoughts?
- Kate Bush
- Sheryl Crow (first-time nominee)
- Missy Elliott (first-time nominee, first year eligible)
- Iron Maiden
- Joy Division / New Order (first-time nominee)
- Cyndi Lauper (first-time nominee)
- George Michael (first-time nominee)
- Willie Nelson (first-time nominee)
- Rage Against the Machine
- Soundgarden
- The Spinners
- A Tribe Called Quest
- The White Stripes (first-time nominee, first year eligible)
- Warren Zevon (first-time nominee)

Good to see Warren Zevon get some props.
Beyond all the usual whining and protests - please change the name to POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME - as "Rock and Roll" died in the mid-late 1960s.

Willy Nelson and Warren Zevon get my votes. I like Soundgarden but wouldn't classify them as HOF
agree with the name change.

All of those acts listed have their merits - not knockin' any of them. I liked Dolly Parton's initial response when she was nominated: "I don't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame any more than AC/DC belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame."
I think she later rescinded her objection and accepted the nod with grace. The late, Chris Squire said of Yes when they were nominated, "our music has nothing to do with Rock and Roll".

Maybe it should be the pop hall of fame but rock n roll is still alive (though no longer the dominant music genre).
I'd go with
Warren Zevon
Iron Maiden
Soundgarden
White Stripes/Jack White general
Rage....not my cup of tea but influential and huge
Willies, Quest, Missy, George Michael, Cyndi etc aren't rock n roll. I like Sheryl Crowe a lot....maybe she is RnR Hall of Fame worthy...not sure. Joy Division maybe....
Still no Little Feat, Marshall Tucker Band, Jethro Tull, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Triumph, Jayhawks (most underrated rock band in history IMO), Styx, REO, Widespread Panic, Phish (who I don't love but geez they are huge and talented)

If I remember correctly only Duane, Gregg, Dickey, Berry, Butch and Jaimoe are in the R&R Hall of Fame. Isn't that correct?
Chuck, Lamar, Dan Toler, David Goldflies, Mike Lawler, David Toler, Warren, Johnny Neel, Allen, Jack Pearson, Derek, Otiel and Marc Q. are not. Is that correct?
If I'm right, how do they decide which members of a specific band go in and which are excluded?
For example Otiel and even Allen Woody played bass for the ABB longer than Berry Oakley.
If Little Feat ever get in, be interesting to see which members go in.

On life-support at best. Preserved forever on recordings. It's okay - music has always evolved and morphed into new forms. Classical gave way to Rococo, etc. Neither Jazz or C&W are anywhere near what they started out. Just don't try to tell me that Kenny G is jazz. 😉

... or that Fla/GA Line is country.

Interesting read on the subject (Birmingham News). Writer opines that several nom's don't belong - can't say that I agree with his alt's.

The fact that Three Dog Night is not in there and not even nominated is a huge travesty but of course there have been many travesties regarding the Hall over the years. Three Dog Night had 21 Top 40 hit singles including three Number One's. But I guess that doesn't rate with the Hall. And band members (recently Floyd Sneed) are dying before getting to enjoy the recognition of a Hall induction.

Jazz all the way Rusty!!
I'm sure there are other examples but was surprised to see he was on a Steve Miller album long before his solo recordings came out.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

@robslob I indeed agree!!! Three Dog Night was a hit record machine in the early to mid 1970's!! I'm sure Dolly Pardon would have gladly stepped aside to let 3 dog in.
Maybe it's their politics. Or politics at the Hall.
I was a regular reader and contributed to Butch's blog back in the 90's and Butch was very surprised the ABB was nominated.
And Butch was pessimistic the ABB would get in. Butch said with bands like Velvet Underground in the running they didn't have a chance.
But they DID make it!!
Oddly just Butch, Gregg, Jaimoe and Dickey were inducted with Berry and Duane's award received by their children. Chuck and Lamar who played on the band's biggest album were left out.

How are The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Parliament Funkadelic in, but not the Meters? Those 2 bands would not have developed the style they did without Art, George, Leo & Zig. It’s a shame because they have been nominated in the past, but now Art is gone. Little Feat is also a Meters influenced band. Lowell even worked with them on Robert Palmer’s 1st album. Little Feat only has 3 members left from their classic lineup, and I believe Bill Payne is the only original member. Their ship may have sailed as far as getting inducted into the traveshamockery (Bob Odenkirk word) that is the RnR HOF.

Hotlatanta - How Marshall Tucker, Jethro Tull and Three Dog Night are not in the RRHOF is a unbelieveable. MT had that great
Southern Rock sound that touched on and clearly influenced a host of modern country artists. Jethro Tull like MT again had a unique
sound bringing in the flute along with great guitar work. Martin Barre is a monster. TDN as mentioned all those hit songs, multiple vocalists, etc. Little Feat is the weakest in IMO of the four although I caught them recently and played a great show.

To be honest I really dont care really to much one way or another who is in and who is not.
BUT, I think they almost need to go the route of the Baseball Hall of Fame, make it more elite in away. Kinda starting to get watered down. Not sure what the criteria is.
Maybe they should call it the "Music Hall Of Fame".
