Its funny hearing Al speak about playing the Midnight Rider riff and Chick asking what that was because Butch always said RTF were fans of the ABB. Lol.

I saw Al in the 1970's. About 76 I think. He was about 60% acoustic and 40% electric guitar. He played a black Les Paul with a white pick guard. (Guess I didn't dream that. Been so many years ago). And it was the first time I ever saw a guitarist do that up and down double stroke all four fingers fast run ( kinda shredding) thing. And he could move very fast and just as clean as a whistle. Al is absolutely a virtuoso. 

Later I saw others who could do those fast jazz like runs on a guitar and do it clean. Eric Johnson, George Benson, Steve Vai among others. But often it's not really playing the melody of the song but an excellent way to show off while moving from on part to another.
