Was there EVER a more classic R&B voice?

I actually had a ticket to see her only 2 or 3 years ago but the show was cancelled.  No reason was given.  I was in shock when I saw that she was to perform at The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, only 35 miles from my place, because I hadn't heard of her doing anything musically for many years.

The McCarren Pool in Brooklyn used to host Pool Party Concerts in the empty old Robert Moses public pool. They were hot messes, lots of beer, dodgeball, slip n' slides, and a hipster band. One weekend they had Ronnie Specter. She was fantastic, she doesn't get enough credit as a 60s soul queen. Unfairly over-shadowed by the Notorious P.H.I.L.

One of the great teenage voices (along with Darlene Love) that Phil Spector exploited in the mid 60's.  Yes, Be My Baby.  She and Keith Richards did have a short-term thing going back in the day. R.I.P.
