R.I.P. Mike Bloomfield, found dead in his car this date in 1981

Wow, It's really been 40 years ! Spinning some Mike tonight in his memory, such a loss.

Yes @oldblue Mike Bloomfield died way too young. I remember hearing B.B King talk about him as he thought that Bloomfield was by far one of the greatest players around. If you don't already own a copy of the book "Michael Bloomfield, If You Love These Blues, an Oral history," By Jan Mark Wolkin and Bill Keenom, I suggest it as a great reference guide to all things Mike Bloomfield. I could go on about his playing with Paul Butterfield and his work in Al Cooper and Steven Stills, but that would take all day. RIP Mike Bloomfield, you did your best!

They should re-re-make "The Jazz Singer" as a Bloomfield bio-pic. Jewish boy grows up loving the Blues and makes a life of it.

I was curious because I thought I had heard that Bloomfield died of a heroin overdose. Judging by this from his Wikipedia page, his death was shrouded in mystery. "An empty valium bottle was found on the car seat" but "no drugs were found in Bloomfield's system." Very strange indeed. Anyone know more and care to elaborate? Here's the quote from Wikipedia:
"Bloomfield died in San Francisco on February 15, 1981.[11] He was found seated behind the wheel of his car, with all four doors locked.[12] According to police, an empty Valium bottle was found on the car seat, but no suicide note was found.[13] The medical examiner who performed the autopsy ruled the death accidental, though he was unable to determine a cause of death, because no drugs were found in Bloomfield's system, and there were no signs of foul play.[14] Bloomfield's last album, Cruisin' for a Bruisin', was released the day his death was announced.[1] His remains are interred in a crypt at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, in Culver City, near Los Angeles."

Then there is the article below which tells a COMPLETELY different tale: "The coroner concluded he died of cocaine and methamphetamine poisoning, drugs that Bloomfield, being a hot-wired insomniac, had never been known to use."

an amazing loss
RIP
