Peter Frampton -Return of The Phenix

Peter Frampton played the same single Gibson guitar, known as the “Phenix”, for nearly a decade until a cargo plane crash when it was thought to have burned in the crash. 30 years later the Phenix reappeared as was reunited with Peter. Journey with him as he tells the story of the guitar and works with the Gibson team to restore it once again.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

3 pickups!! Who is that old man with the guitar? Plus I don't see Peter!!
That guitar had a great fat tone back in the 70's when I saw Peter!

It started out as a 2 pickup 54 with a Alinco pickup in the rhythm and a p90 in the treble. Gibson made 3 PAF pickup customs starting in 1957. The Phenix is a modified 54. Like the one pictured below. Billy Jones from the Outlaws played a 3 pickup late 50's custom that came equipped with 3 PAF's from the factory.

@goldtop Thanks Goldtop!! You must be a guitar player yourself. Yes I'm not surprised it began as a two pickup in 1954. Les Paul the man eventually had a heavily modified Les Paul with three pickups which I saw him play in New York as a older man.
My favorite guitar has always been Dickey's 1957 Goldtop "Goldie" he purchased in 1974 at a Manhattan pawn shop. The Les Paul Dickey plays on the live One Way Out on Eat A Peach has killer tone too!
An old friend in DC who plays a Les Paul and a Tele linked this for me over the weekend. He told me to watch it all the way and take in all of this solo. Said it's the most amazing solo he has ever seen and only a player would really dig it. It is a heck of a ride when I played it.
