NYE Funky Biscuit

Not sure if any others here attended. It was an ABB Tribute with Scott Sherard , Marc Quinones and others. Hate to be a drag but it didn't work for me. Twenty minute jams are great if you are a great player but they can drag in a lesser musicians hands. Melanie Trucks band opened and although it was a nice tribute for her and her dad this girl is not a good singer and neither is anyone else in her band. Don't want to beat it to death and I love the intent and the honoring of fallen brothers, but in my mind the musicianship was lacking. The Sherard band had 1 guy who could sing and they only let him sing background and 1 lead, couldn't figure this out as the others clearly weren't singers. Oh well better luck next time.

I live nearby and decided to skip the Funky Biscuit tribute shows. They sounded intriguing in intent, I'm glad that music is still being played. The core of Gregg Allman's band (Marc, Peter, Bret & Scott) is still super tight, but Scott Sharrard and Tash Neal (not a fan) out front is just not a draw for me, definitely not for the $40-65 ticket prices in Boca.
The Muscle Schoals show is available, there are a handful of ok moments ("Hey Jude" definitely not one of them), but damn if Scott doesn't talk way too much: https://www.mixcloud.com/CHeeSeHeaDPRoDuCTioNS/brothers-sisters-holiday-jam-duane-allman-that-muscle-shoals-sound-funky-biscuit-2018-12-29/
Melody's band is a mixed bag, but they are just a regional band. I agree she isn't a great singer (and her lap steel player is, uh, well, definitely there). I'm sure it's therapeutic and there are worse working bands out there, but I guess I hold her band to a lower bar. Had Butch not been a regular at the Biscuit, she probably wouldn't be opening there (not that the Funky Biscuit has drawn anyone of note lately).
For anyone who hasn't heard her band, here is her band playing "Southbound"
and another song that sounds an awful lot like ABB's "Can't Lose What You Never Had":

I live in NYC and also have a home in Boca Raton and the Funky Biscuit is one of my favorite places to see a show. I went to the Butch Trucks Tribute last year at the venue which also featured Scott Sharrod and Marc Quinones and felt the same way. Just way too much jamming with little structure. I think it had more to do with lack of rehearsal but that is no excuse. I would not go back to see one these either.

I have to be honest and say that the Melody Trucks Band doesn't do anything for me from what I have seen and heard.

I caught the Derek and Dominos show on the second night and thought it was stellar. Scott Sheppard was impressive. I’ve seen him play with Greg but never like that. He was on fire. I thought he played and sang extremely well. I also enjoyed Tash Neil. I thought he sang and played well and the two fed off each other nicely. The whole band was tight. The girl on vocals was perhaps not on par with Bonnie, but in all a fantastic night of music. I purposefully attended the Derek & Doninoes show instead of the Allmans because we tend to have extremely high expectations of Allman-related material and it’s easy to be disappointed. But from what I saw I thought they were terrific.
