Nigerian Psychedelic Rock

This is tremendous stuff. Thanks.

This looks like a thread that's going to cost me money. I don't know the bands Kogbe writes about, but King Sunny Ade is great and kind of psychedelic. Fela Kuti is fantastic, too.

Nice! A treasure trove of fantastic African rock awaits!
Reposting this from a thread I started a few years back, sank like a stone, zero replies:
. . . Dr. Livingstoned I presume! Stumbled across a goldmine of stunning psychedelic rock from mid 1970's Africa. Started with Nigeria, then found my way to "Zamrock" from Zambia Zamrock was 0a reaction to the government shutdown of foreign pop radio to promote African culture, so a bunch of bands started making their own rock, great acid rock. My personal fave, not Zamrock but from that era of African rock, was a band composed of former members of Ginger Baker's Salt, a band he formed in Nigeria. The band is Blo, just fantastic hard rockin groove-a-delica... Well, if you like this stuff, a bit of searching will turn up the details and history... I've been listening to this since winter, having a great time, thought I'd heard it all, but here is a forgotten trove from our African brethren. Enjoy!
