They look cool. And sound good. 

I'm a drummer fan and I use to be impressed with a large kit with 10 tom toms, 2 bass drums, 3 or 4 floor toms and more cymbals and gongs that you can count. That was when I was digging Rush's drummer. 

Jaimoe and Butch used small kits. Ringo Starr had 4 drums and a few cymbals and I keep reading about how good he was/is. 

It's fun to watch someone plays with a big kit and clearly a great drummer can play everything needed with a small kit. 

Here is a guy working hard on a mid size kit!
