Neil Young Demands Spotify Remove His Music Over Vaccine Lies

@goldtop I had not heard of Joe Rogan until last Friday and haven't heard his program or his voice still. Apparently he has medical people on who have a different view of Covid, masks and vaccines than Doctor Fauci. If one has a different view on Covid, masks, vaccines and climate change and a range of other views that are at odds with the women on the View, Joe Biden, AOC, CNN etc, then they are to be slapped down and cancelled and gaged.
How did the left and the right get so far apart and develope such anger and bitterness toward each other? Was it Trump? It seems to predate Trump as George W. Bush was ripped by MSNBC every night I watched. I ordered one of the BUCK FUSH bumper stickers they offered but was afraid my car would get damaged by Tea Party people so never used it.
The Neil Young and Joni Mitchell I admired promoted love, peace, equality and tolerance of all views unless it was Texas sentencing people to jail for 20 years for a dime bag of marijuana and armed robbers got 10.
We need the hippie movement redux.
I follow Dr. Fauci's advise. Yes he evolved as things evolved. I remember in the beginning Dr. Fauci didn't recommend masks but did latex gloves and washing your hands often. I'm masked and am uncomfortable around people at the grocery store who are not and I've had THREE Pfizer shots. January and February of 2021 and a booster September 2021.
Wish the temperature could be lowered.

I need a hippie!! Come on Joni Mitchell!! Let's all fall in love again!

Sometimes I do feel like democracy in the US is coming to an end but not in my lifetime - not over who gets played on spotify - but the seeming collapse of reason in all 3 branches of government as well as in the American public. Sometimes, I feel like thought was turned off at a point I missed & people just started to parrot whatever was being said by popular personalities or their neighbors or someone other than themselves actually reading facts, thinking, & making a decision. So, I've pretty much opted out of what passes for news & chime in when I actually know what I'm talking about.
For me, the best events this week are that there is now a cat living in the White House and Rafael Nadal won the Australian Open for the 2nd time - making him the winner of the most Grand Slam titles in men's tennis history.

@cyclone88 So do I by the very people that run around screaming madness and then expecting no blow back from it. I grew up in a family that left lives on the battlefield in Europe and 90% of my uncles and my father went to war in WWII. And had to go back to Italy and fight against the people of our ancestry. I'm tired of the commie talk the fatalist BS...the unacceptance of change and the change that needs to be for the next generation to live better than we did just like I have. Why because of what the greatest generation did for us. That is now being $hit on by anyone that supports trumpism, conspiracy lovers, flag posing...making excuses for "Southern culture" i.e. using people as livestock. The very denial that it's something we need to teach our kids. Politicians that only go there to cause trouble and not legislate and the people that think the very system that allows to think stupidity should be torn down...Yep our democracy is in danger. from 1957-2016 I never once watched a political tv show. Never worried about our country falling into the hands of the village idiot and then people being just fine with it. Not once ever listening to people like Michael Cohen and they continue to make excuses for the visceral knuckle dragging dick swinging thoughts they believe this country should run under. Deny experts until you're sick then run to the hospital. Drink horse piss and take horse med because some quack said to...we're far past rational. Do they ever wonder why they don't have polio or diphtheria, small pox?? we're so un-grounded and ready to accept the advice of the critically stupid. So yes I'm a bit frustrated....rant over...

And a perfectly good rant it was.
You mentioned WWII. I recently watched Darkest Hour re Churchill sputtering at the inanity of his cabinet thinking polite negotiation w/the madman Hitler while Britain was 1 secured port away from falling to Germany. [France, Belgium, Holland, Poland had already collapsed & the US wasn't yet in.] Didn't necessarily need the reminder, but there is no negotiating or reasoning w/madmen or willful stupidity.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Interesting that Neil Young sold most of his music to Blackstone for 150 million. Check them out if you want to see something messing up more lives than subjective misinformation on a liberal guys podcast on Spotify. Not to mention, Neil is pimping Amazon Music for his fans to use for streaming. They are the people that give reason for labor unions reasons to exist and have pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for most small businesses. During the lockdowns, mom and pop couldn't sell their wares and had to permanently shut down . Yet Wal-Mart & Amazon made billions, while treating their workforce like crap.
It isn't about what you say or do, it is why you do it. I am all for making money from the blood, sweat, and tears of one's labors. You do have a choice, in most instances, who you sell your labors to. Blackstone & Amazon have hurt a lot of hard working people just to make a buck. I'd love to hear Neil"s comment on all that. Yeah, it is his business right? Didn't stop him from virtue signaling his business with Spotify. Again it goes back to... It isn't about what you say or do it is about why you do it.

This is why I've been saying this is nothing but a PR stunt for NY. He can't do anything with "his" music because he doesn't own it - it's either in the hands of his record label or in a bundle he sold to Blackstone whose major investor is Pfizer. He's been hopping from streamer to streamer for years going as far as taking it all down but putting it back up because - he doesn't own it. Apple is one of his current streamers.
NY likes to position himself as an outsider. In the 1970s, he was relevant w/anti-war songs. Good on him.
In 2022, who is NY? Given his association w/Pfizer, he could be considered a marketing tool for Pfizer & its vaccines. He seems like an angry unhappy man who is irrelevant & probably doesn't want to look too closely at his business decisions - Blackstone & Big Pharma. Spotify still isn't involving themselves in Rogan's content; they're offering links to factual Covid/vaxx info. Rogan is still Spotify's #1 podcast.

I see that after reading through the thread.
Spotify has already censored Joe Rogan's podcast over 40 times already. I do not dig on any type of censorship, content warnings make the choice up to the individual, which is totally fine. IMHO
The corporate espionage between Spotify and the other multi-national big tech conglomerates is off the hook. Eventually, all music streaming will be monopolized, as well as the other types of media streaming services.
I recently seen that the White House called on Spotify to censor Joe Rogan. Regardless of whoever occupies the place, that is totally against the Constitution. I get some think it is okay, but it really should never be. George Washington has an awesome quote regarding taking away free speech, the "dumb & silent" one

DAVID CROSBY, STEPHEN STILLS And GRAHAM NASH Demand Removal Of Their Group Recordings From SPOTIFY
David Crosby, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills have requested that their labels remove their collective recordings from Spotify. In solidarity with their bandmate Neil Young, and in support of stopping harmful misinformation about COVID-19, they have decided to remove their records from the streaming platform including the recordings of CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG, CROSBY, STILLS & NASH and CROSBY & NASH, as well as Crosby's and Stills's solo projects. Nash has already begun the process to take down his solo recordings.
In a unified statement, the band members commented: "We support Neil and we agree with him that there is dangerous disinformation being aired on Spotify's Joe Rogan podcast. While we always value alternate points of view, knowingly spreading disinformation during this global pandemic has deadly consequences. Until real action is taken to show that a concern for humanity must be balanced with commerce, we don't want our music — or the music we made together — to be on the same platform."
Last month, Neil demanded that his catalog be removed from Spotify in response to "fake information about vaccines" being "spread" on the platform via Joe Rogan's podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience". Young delivered an ultimatum, adding, "They can have Rogan or Young. Not both." Spotify announced a few days later that it would pull Young's music catalog from its platform.
In the days after Neil had his music from Spotify removed, a handful of notable artists have pulled their music from the streaming giant, blaming the platform for spreading false information about coronavirus via Rogan's podcast.
Neil's wife and acclaimed actress Daryl Hannah took to Twitter to express criticism for Rogan's podcast and the eventual choice Spotify has made regarding Neil's ultimatum.
Daryl wrote: "sad to see some confuse censorship & free speech with the choice a private company has in deciding what they profit from a podcaster is free to say whatever they want Just as Neil is free to NOT have his music on a platform that makes $$$ of disinformation that harms folks".
In response, Rogan promised to "do my best, in the future, to balance things out," while Spotify said it would add content advisories to podcast episodes with information about COVID-19. In an almost 10-minute-long Instagram video posted on Monday, Rogan said he would "try harder to get people with differing opinions on" on his show, which averages 11 million listeners per episode.
"The Joe Rogan Experience" became a Spotify exclusive in 2020, when Rogan signed a multi-year exclusive licensing deal with the streaming giant.
Spotify's company's chief executive Daniel Ek has defended Rogan in the past, including after an episode that featured the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones in 2020.
"We want creators to create," Ek told The Financial Times at the time. "It's what they do best. We're not looking to play a role in what they should say."
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Actually CSN made a tepid announcement - your direct quote is correct - but they ASKED their label to TEMPORARILY taken down some work. BECAUSE they don't own it & NY sold 1/2 of ALL of his music - including things he wrote for Buffalo Springfield, CSN - to Blackstone/Pfizer. Not much of a threat.
Spotify's CEO's position has never changed - they're not messing w/content. They added links to fact-checking Covid. Rogan is still their #1 property.
And who cares what Daryl Hannah - acclaimed for dating JFK Jr - thinks?
Nothing's going to happen here. Rogan isn't going to be fired. NY is going to be heard on other platforms until he decides something's wrong w/them & perhaps he'll be questioned about the evils of Big Pharma.

To answer an earlier question, Spotify pays 50% of 1 cent for every stream which is then split between the artist/label/songwriter/whoever. Deals aren't exclusive.
In contrast, Rogan was paid $100mm for his exclusive podcasts plus 11 yr catalogue.

I had never heard of Joe Rogan. So this brought him attention to people like me.
Neil Young was protested by Lynyrd Skynyrd in Sweet Home Alabama. When Ronnie first heard Southern Man he wanted to kick Neil's butt. Now Lynyrd Skynyrd is out of bounds with the politically correct. As you may remember Lynyrd Skynyrd was waving Confederate Flags and Dixie Pride for years. It made me uncomfortable in the 1970's. I've never respected the Confederate Flag.
I remember in the 1960's people were throwing away their Beatles records by the thousands. But they bought them again on CD some years later. The Beatles catalog is the best selling array of previously released albums in music history.
This anti Beatles movement in the 1960's was sparked by John Lennon making the comment the Beatles are now more famous and popular than Jesus Christ.
I write this on February 6th, 69 AB.*
* AB is After Beatles. BB is Before Beatles. That replaced BC, Before Christ.
Some atheists protested Jesus in the 1940's when they began using BCE and CE in place of BC and AD.
BCE is before common era. CE is common era. I always thought they defeated their own protest. When you check to see when Common Era began, it is the birth of Christ. They should have picked another place in history for the transition.
The book " The Jesus Puzzle"uses Common Era beginning at Jesus' birth and it is one of the books put out by atheists who hold Jesus Christ is a completely mythological character like King Arthur, Paul Bunyan, Hercules, Isis and Zeus. And that religion is bad for modern human beings and should be shunned and exposed as fraud. Guess those men and women wouldn't last long in Saudi Arabia!!!.
Jesus ain't no myth man. He is somewhere between Chicago and New Orleans right now!!

After reading that, I started singing, "There goes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail"

Money talks and in this case so does BS

That probably sounds worse than it is in terms of revenue for artists. For those who haven't already bundled their music & sold it off for $150-$200mm like Neil Young, spotify is just one of their many sources of revenue - every kind of hard or digital copy plus touring plus private concerts plus oher streaming platforms plus soundtracks plus merchandising.
Rogan is exclusive to spotify (had to take down from youtube) for an unspecified amount of years & all of his back catalogue.
Given that NY had sold a significant portion of his work to Big Pharma for $150mm & had to ask his label to make a request re termination, spotify & Rogan are apples & oranges.

Neil Young to Spotify workers
https://ultimateclassicrock.com/neil-young-spotify-quit/
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

A Canadian platform has offered Joe Rogan $100 million dollars to move to it's platform from Spotify and Joe can discuss anything and say anything and have as guests anybody he wants. Complete freedom to content his show as he wants.
They also made it CLEAR they don't give a $&+# what Neil Young or Joni Mitchell or AOC or Joe Biden thinks about anything. They could care less.
I bet Joe* will stay put.
* I had never heard of Joe Rogan until this story broke and continue to have never heard one of his shows.

Who is Neil Young to tell spotify workers to quit their jobs? Why? Is he offering employment elsewhere?
He's no longer involved w/spotify in any way so shut up. Instead, let's talk about Young's association w/Pfizer - Big Pharma who gets its research funded by taxpayers thru NIH, price gouges, uses the poorest countries for illegal human testing, still uses animal testing, gets patent extensions well beyond its intended life span, massive tax breaks, and the list goes on. Why isn't he taking them on?

That's pretty much his exclusive deal w/spotify. They've repeatedly said (& it is no doubt in his contract) that management doesn't interfere w/his content creation. It has, under court order & requests from organizations, removed some of his old content - most recently his repeated use of the actual n-word - at no financial loss to Rogan. Why is it so hard to understand contracts? (Not directed at you, @robertdee). If someone has a contract, it doesn't matter who else offers other contracts, he'd have to breach his current contract that would cost him more than the new contract.
