NCAA Tournament

So here we are Sports Fans........first day of the round of 64, counting the "play-in" round, the second day of the NCAA tournament. And all three of the Pac-12 teams are out! UCLA, Arizona State, and today, Buffalo 89 Arizona 68. Big upset, a #13 seed over a #4 seed. And a blow-out. Not much of a Pac-12 showing this year: 0-3.

I did pretty good for the first day .I picked 13 out of the 16 games.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

11/16 here.

I wish Walton and his obnoxious loud mouth would just go away PERIOD.

This is my favorite time of year. I am immersed in NCAA and NIT. My bracket is pretty much
blown-up at this point already. Glad there are some hoops fans here.
I wanted to ... defend Bill Walton. I was not always a fan, not a hater, just not a fan when he was playing. I grew to like him later. As a color guy on the hardwood tv circuit I do like him, because he is so different. I know his style is not for everyone. I had a chance to meet him, once at Wanee, he
goes every year, or did, and once at a local weekend long celebration "Apple Blossom Festival".
He is a great, humble, interesting and interested guy. We see a ton of sports celebs come
through our little town for the ABF. Most, well the majority, are ... not humble, interested, or great, in a human sense. I saw him do positive, out of the norm things with fans that I never saw any sports celeb do. I also saw him defend the father of then Redskin's quarterback RGIII to a crowd of Redskin's fans who were not so polite. He got up from his seat, while RG's father was
at the podium speaking and very eloquently told the crowd to " back off ". It was one of the most
impressive things I think I've ever seen any celeb do.
And... he was extremely cool to me at Wanee.

That's nice and also nice to see that Walton is engaging in person. And cool that he attends Wanee, I never knew that. Knew only that he is a huge Deadhead.
Won't stop me however from cringing every time I turn on a game and have to listen to him. On the air as far as I am concerned, he's infinitely full of himself, often hurling useless hyperbole and interrupting his broadcast partner.

I never really get caught up on color/play by play people
like some do. I tend to tune them out for the most part. I will listen
to alot of sports on radio, and there are some really good ones
that can make the game come alive.
I really do not follow racing, but one of the best sporting
events to listen to is the Indy 500. That team does a TREMENDOUS
job. TV does not even compare to what they do.
I like to hear Clark Kellog do color during the games and he gives
good insight in the studio also.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Holy crap!!!!! Purdue big man Isaac Haas done for rest of tourney, fractured elbow!!!
UGH!!! That about kills my bracket!!!:(
I feel bad for him and the team. It will definitely be an equalizer for Butler when they play against them on Sunday.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Year of the upset:
#14 Buffalo takes down #4 Arizona
#16 Maryland, Baltimore County takes down #1 Virginia
And both games were blow-outs. Who woulda thunk it??
Go Gonzaga today vs. Ohio State. Our sole West Coast team remaining.........

Walton went to The Beacon all the time to see The ABB. Heard he was a nice guy.

Walton went to The Beacon all the time to see The ABB. Heard he was a nice guy.
For a brief shining year or two he may have been the greatest center ever.
And in response to whomever said he was full of himself; sometimes goes along with greatness. Bill Russell is always arrogant. Larry Bird once verbally attacked Pat Riley for not double teaming him for the final shot of a playoff elimination game. And this was after he missed the shot; he still wanted to know how he had the nerve to do so.

The Pac 12 is the conference of champions. Walton is right, like him or not. No conference even close in NCAA titles in all sports. 😮

well we are talking specifically about mens basketball to which the pac 12 has been junk now since the 70's compared to the other 5 major conferences

Conference of Champiions ... The Pac 12. that's why Walton says it. Pretty simple actually.

and then he blabbers on about pac 12 basketball as if its something to fear and says every year is underrated and the ncaa favors the other conferences and yet each year the pac 12 ends up looking like junk in the tournament. they've won what, 2 national championships in basketball the 28 years. meanwhile look at this in that same time span
ACC-12
BIG 10 -4
BIG EAST-7
BIG 12-2
SEC-6

zzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Pac -12 !! Conference of Champions !!!

zzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Pac -12 !! Conference of Champions !!!
ok sure in golf and water polo and whatever else .
bill Walton clearly is referencing basketball when he says that and his comments that follow that statement support my claim. no one here will say the pac 12 in basketball has been anything other than a disappointment over the last 3 decades

no I have not nor do I care. some exact quotes by bill Walton after saying "the conference of champions"
-"that's why all the great players want to come play basketball for one of the powerhouse schools"
-"if you are playing basketball in the pac 12 you don't get a game where you can just rest. toughest conference in college"
-just the thought of having a chance to hoist that national championship banner for these elite schools are why players like Ayton come to the pac 12"
that's just 3 of his quotes that spring to mind all from this season and all after he said the pac 12 was the conference of champions. notice as far as basketball is concerned his quotes are bunk and out right false when talking about the last 30 years

Bill Walton would beat you one on one. so would i...
we are both from:
THE CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS!!
😮

Dino , you play polo ?

No, but ironically, i was 3rd team honorable mention in Marco, Polo ....

Nevada 75 Cincinnati 73
Oh My God what a comeback!! It's games like this that make the tournament special. I was pulling for Nevada, being from the Mountain West Conference. They were down by 22 with 11 minutes to play and I thought for SURE it was over. Nevada never led in this game until there was about one minute left to play.
Turning point: Cincinnati star guard Jarron Cumberland picked up his 4th foul with about six minutes left in the game. Announcers said coach will have to take him out. Cumberland pleaded with his coach from the court NOT to take him out. Coach leaves him in; with about 4 minutes to play Cumberland commits a STUPID, unnecessary foul and is now out the game. Coach gives Cumberland a look that could kill Sasquatch on site..............
GO NEVADA WOLF PACK...............

"Conference of Champions" is a PAC-12 marketing phrase that they have earned. 500 National Championships in all sports.
Anyone that went to UCLA and played for John Wooden and won two titles while he was in college can say whatever he wants.

and I can say pretty much all of ucla's titles should have ben vacated. they found out Walton,Goodrich, Kareem and many others accepted impermissible benefits after wooden had retired and only came down on the current coaches . why? no idea as they seem to have no issue today punishing former coaches or current coaches who weren't even at the school when the infractions were commited

Fun weekend of basketball. College ball is my favorite format to watch over the pro's , just my preference.
I only have two of the final four left in my bracket. Not looking to good.

That's because John Wooden was God personified in the eyes of the NCAA. Walton pretty much admitted it. If you want to investigate more, get a hold of Jerry Tarkanian's biography, "Runnin' Rebel."
He quotes Walton in the book: "We were taken care of. But no one to this day has ever come around asking questions of any of us players."
Tarkanian admitted that he cheated. His biggest beef was why the NCAA never came after Wooden, who was cheating like just about every other successful colllege basketball program was.
I respect Walton for an admission like that. I still almost cannot stand to watch a game when he is announcing though. He just irritates me to no end. IMO he is in love with the sound of his own voice.

I have three of my final four teams still in but I picked NC to win it all.

I played three teams in my pool. In two of them I have three alive in The Final Four. In my third, I have all four still alive.
You'd think that it good but I didn't pick Duke in any of them and I am thinking they are the best team still standing.
Which means GO SYRACUSE!
