Does anyone have any info on an ABB show I was at in 1971 @ the Miami-Hollywood Speedway (apparently that name has changed numerous times over the years) It was early Sept. of that year maybe the 8th or 9th. This show does not seem to appear on any of the show lists I’ve seen. There don’t appear to be any other shows on those dates. Wet Willie was on the bill (maybe others as well) Anybody have any info on this show and/ or why it doesn’t appear anywhere ?

They played the Jai-alai in Miami on 09/04/71, could that have been the show?

@harvey Thanks but that was not the show. I assume that show was indoors. This one was an outdoor show at a motor speedway.

FYI the following show that appears on the list is 9/10 in Passaic, N.J. There are no shows listed between 9/4 & 9/10 (unusual for them in those days) I don’t know why this show does not appear but it had to have happened between those dates. I’d appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this mystery.

@Rephilb

Was Duane playing? The ABB did play with Wet Willie at the Hollywood Speedway Park but a year later in late 1972. It was billed as the Rock and Roll 9 and included John Hammond, Mahivishnu Orchestra and Edgar Winter & White Trash (Johnny also turned up). Tried to google a flyer for the show but couldn't find one.

It seems you are sure of the time period so maybe one that has slipped through the net?

@crosseyedcat Thanks. When I check the show data base I don’t see the show u refer to but, in any case, yes, it was 1971 and Duane was there so it could not have been 1972. I’m new to this forum so I there r any other sites or sources that anyone can point me to that I can use to pursue this, I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

@Rephilb I think you may have spotted a mistake in the live show database.

My understanding is the ABB played the Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL on January 22nd, 1972. This was the five man line up and there is a soundboard bootleg of the show.

Dickey at the Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL 01/22/1972.

Later in the same year they played the Speedway Park, Hollywood on December 27th, 1972.  I think this was Lamar’s second show with the ABB as Berry died in the November.

I think whom ever pulled together the database thought the Sportatorium and the Speedway Park were the same venue in Hollywood, although the Speedway was located a few hundred yards to the East of the Sportatorium and one was an indoor arena and the other outdoor.

For the dates in question, the flyers indicate different venues where the database shows the same venue.

As regards internet resources there is this site and it’s predecessor (not all the information was copied across to this site so there might be some useful information there). For the Duane era my go to resource is https://www.duaneallman.info/ (the shows documented there are supported by booking slips and receipts).

Other than that there are very little resources I would trust other than some of the books in particular the ones by Alan Paul and Galadrielle.

@crosseyedcat Thanks for the response and help. I don’t think I’ve found an error, per say, in the data base. I think I’ve found an omission. The show I refer to was not in 1972 and certainly not in Jan. and certainly not w/o Duane or Berry. It was early Sept. of 1971 and Duane and Berry were definitely there. I believe this was the third time I’d seen them with their founding personnel (maybe fourth) and although I’ve seen them countless time, in their various configurations since, it was certainly and unfortunately the last time I’d seen them while Duane and Berry were still alive.

@crosseyedcat Oh and thanks for the ‘Duane’ web site reference. I’ll check that out.

@crosseyedcat Checked the ‘Duane’ web site u mentioned. Same issue, there’s a show in Jacksonville, 9/5/71 and the next one in N.J., 9/10/71. As I stated earlier, in those days, 5 days w/o a booking is conspicuous and the missing show in question had to have taken place between those dates.

A friend of mine just posted a picture he took of Gregg at the Hollywood, FL racetrack show. He worked for Johnny Winter at that time. Trying to get him to rack his brains and remember more details and pictures. Also trying to get him to come over here and share some pics and road stories. He was an Atlanta fellow who worked at Richards, then some early Little Feat, Piedmont Park shows, Georgia Jam and on and on. Has a lot of photos and a long and storied career (including 20 plus years with George Jones during his most famous stretch of fame or infamy, depending on your view).

As a rabid Canadian Allman fan back in 1972, I'm astounded by that line-up. I

would have paid $7.50 just to see Mahavishnu. I get the impression that JM and

his group did a few concerts with the Allmans, but I've never heard any word at

all if there was ever any interaction between them.

There are shows missing from the data base. It happens.  ABB played a show at the Omni in Atlanta at the end of the Enlightened Rouges Tour. It is not in the data base. I assume this is because it was not part of the originally planned tour. They had played Atlanta at the Fox early in the tour.  But as the tour wound down it had gone well enough that they decided to do a free show in Atlanta but couldn't pull it off. So they partnered with 94Q and gave the fans a very inexpensive last minute show at the Omni. They were all over the radio with interviews the day of the show. I remember Dickey saying on the radio that they would be playing a lot of old stuff but that they would play every song from the new album, and they did. It was a great show given the line up and the times, better than the Fox show earlier that year.  I tried to get Lana & Rowland to add the show. I had a ticket stub! Still not in the data base. I left the Ticket Stub at Clay Pelland's house along with a few rough audience tapes from Gregg Allman shows in Atlanta. Point is, as thorough as the data base is, it's not perfect and doesn't claim to be.

@mikewest Yes! Now that I think of it Johnny Winter may have been on that bill as well.

@kcjimmy OK that makes sense, I just wish there was some way to investigate & confirm (or not) and update the data base.

@mikewest Ooops, sorry my bad. I checked with the friend who was with me at that show. Johnny Winter was not on the bill with them and Wet Willie but he seems to remember a group called Gun Hill Road for whatever that’s worth.
