Pretty cool from an old TV show, "Backstage Pass" in the late 70's- the early eighties....I was actually looking for a video on this program I remembered w/Jackson Browne playing slide guitar when I stumbled on this...

I saw Knopfler in the Warner Sunday night. Great show... but...

I had read a couple of reviews from other cities. The reviewers mentioned some of the onstage banter. I could tell Knopfler has the entire show scripted to the point of saying the same canned dialogue in every city.

C'mon Knopfler. Just talk to us. Better yet, just concentrate on taking your music higher.

He is a great player. The band was amazing. I cannot say they were pushing the edge looking for the magic of improvisation.

Make no mistake, if given the opportunity, I'll see Knopfler again. This was the third time I've seen him without Dire Straights. I'm certain that, once I recognized the dialogue, my attitude toward the show changed. It was still a great show, better than many, and absolutely worth the price of admission.

I saw the show last night at the Beacon Theatre. This was my first show with Mark and I did not know what to truly expect. While it was entertaining, it did not do anything for me. I thought he missed a great opportunity to really draw the crowd into the music. In my opinion, this is one I could have skipped.

Well, I've got killer seats (4th row dead center). I am not expecting Dire Straits. I have seen Knopfler sans 'Straits. If they can play the music justice - that's all I care to see and hear. Fact is, with the exception of a few bands - most acts do rely on "cookie-cutter" shows. I plan to enjoy it. I'll report back if I'm disappointed. 😉
