I remember hearing someone do this tune but it had to be 30 or 40 years ago. Anyone know who did it or who wrote it?

Without doing a google, seems like Danny O'Keefe maybe.

@goldtop: Thanks Ron. Wikipedia says O'Keefe's version (the author) went to #9 on the Billboard charts in 1972.
But the best version is from LEON, as in Russell.
It was on an album he released called "Solid State"
Never heard the song before pretty cool . I like Charlie Rich's version.
