Marcus King/Derek Trucks: Hot 'Lanta
Alright!! Nice high energy take on Hot Lanta! Both Marcus and Derek are real fine players. I enjoyed that a lot.
Way back years ago in a couple of interviews this instrumental was discussed and it just fell together kinda unexpectedly.
The Allman Brothers were messing around in the studio and Gregg starts playing a cool riff nobody had heard before and Dickey was in the next room and a melody popped into his mind so Dickey rushed into the room, ran up to Gregg and hummed the melody into Gregg's ear and Gregg added that to what he was doing. Duane thought they were on to something so the ENTIRE band took those two ideas and turned it into the instrumental we all know. That is why the writing credit is D. Allman, G. Allman, D. Betts, B. Oakley, B. Trucks, J. Johnson.
I'm sure many have heard that before. I can't remember who and how they chose the name Hot 'Lanta. It's named for Atlanta, Georgia.
Anyone remember how they chose the name?
Nice clip, my second favorite after Elizebeth Reed.
Apparently not everyone loves the nickname.
@aiq Yeah it sounds as if it's not cool to use the name now. That name, crackers down south coined it and it stinks.
Maybe musicians should stop playing it. But when I play At Fillmore East at home I'm not going to skip over it.
I thought the article was kinda stupid. Anyway, there are only two surviving members of the original ABB and they certainly ain't gonna change the name of the tune now. Especially for a tune which is filed away in the Library Of Congress.
@robslob Yeah robslob.
Hey will you two please change the name of Hot'Lanta? https://images.app.goo.gl/wJwAYpX3kCLD4eBq8
