Marcus King

Just finished listening to a Sirius XM concert by the band accompanied by an interview. During the interview Marcus cited Duane Allman as one of his earliest idols and went on about how much Duane influenced him. After Duane he said he got into King Curtis and Aretha. After the interview he played the Weight, Aretha's version, as a tribute. It was a fun radio show.

He's great & I love his new album.

Ya, but did he play anything original? That is something not entirely derivative of his influences.
1. He's talking about a radio show, where he plays music that influenced him on THE RADIO. Why are you so quick to judge?
2. Let us know when you can do one of the things on 6 strings that Marcus is capable of. Just one. We'll wait.
3. Read.
This place is becoming way too negative and judgmental a place and it's often in a very knee-jerk fashion. I was under the impression everyone was here on account of the musical inclusiveness that inspired the music. Maybe we should open a new section on the main page titled "Backseat Music Critics"?

Really dig him. His guitar tone, his voice and his songs. Derivative? Well, who isn't? He's like 22 or 23. What a talent! Haven't heard his new album yet but it's getting very positive reviews. Saw him live 2 times and both shows were great. Really smokin'. Will be picking up his 3rd album and if he's returning to "my legs of the wood" i will surely get tickets again.

Marcus King is an extremely talented young musician. He reminds me of Warren. It's great to see young people like Marcus playing real music instead of synthetic pop garbage. I haven't seen him live yet, but I'm hoping I'll get the chance next year.

Saw him warm up for TTB this summer and got hooked. Saw him again as the headliner in November. tight band, great high energy show, great soulful voice. Nice flow to the set with a mix of styles - songs, jams / improvs.
Looking forward to seeing him again and watching him and the band mature

haha. I'm not that impressed by him his playing isn't bad but he just seems to mirror or copy whoever he's touring with or influenced by be it Warren Haynes, Derek, or Chris Robinson.
I don't like his singing voice either. He sounds like a girl and makes JB of WSP sound like a great singer.

That’s harsh, but I do ageee with the premise. However . . . I remember thinking the same thing about Kenny Wayne Sheperd, and he grew into himself. Johnny Lang too. Though I think KWS became more of a real force.
Point is, let him find his voice. He sounds like his influences, but he’s also darned good. I do feel like (or hope that) he’ll mature into a Marcus King voice on guitar and vocals — and I have high hopes of that happening because it seems like the talent is sure there.
