Edgar Winter, has assembled a jaw-dropping all-star cast to pay tribute to his brother's musical legacy in the form of a tribute album, Brother Johnny.

Featuring 17 tracks hand-picked by Edgar and producer Ross Hogarth – including two new Edgar Winter originals – the album is set for an April 15 release via Quarto Valley Records.

About that all-star cast, though. For Brother Johnny, Edgar Winter recruited a simply astonishing guest list that includes Joe Bonamassa, Doyle Bramhall II, Ringo Starr, Derek Trucks, Robben Ford, Billy Gibbons, David Grissom, Joe Walsh, Phil X, Taylor Hawkins, Warren Haynes, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald, Keb' Mo', John McFee, Doug Rappoport, Bobby Rush, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Waddy Wachtel.

Heckuva lineup for a tribute album.  Here are Joe Walsh and David Grissom playing Johnny B. Goode ... cover from the Johnny Winter And album.

Cool, can't wait for this

Derek used to do an I'm Yours, I'm Hers jam at the end of Misunderstood shortly after Johnny died. It was great.

Got this today and gave it a spin. Very enjoyable, a little harder edge to most of the songs than maybe I'd expected.

Derek pairs with Billy Gibbons on "I'm Yours & I'm Hers." Hardest blues slide I've heard DT play in quite some time. The song rocks. Warren's cut is "Memory Pain" which to me just sounds like a reworked "Serves Me Right To Suffer." (songwriting credited to Percy Mayfield)

Multiple contributions from Joe Walsh, Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Two other favorites, Keb' Mo a nice slower dobro laden "Lone Star Blues" and "Stormy Monday Blues" featuring Robben Ford. A Beatle even sneaks in there, Ringo adding drums to one cut with Walsh and Michael McDonald.

Nice to see contributors like Bob Glaub on bass joining several tunes.

A really nice listen.

Looking forward to hearing this too. Johnny was a monster!

Maybe there should be a Duane tribute album in a similar vein.

Hmm, interesting ...

Coot,

Agree with all of your takes on it and really like how they reworked the songs. I sure wish Derek would do more of this kind of stuff.

Starting listening to it yesterday and enjoyed it - but had the need to listen to the original instead (like many tribute albums).

So far, spun self titled, currently on 2nd Winter.
