Joe survived many years of constant drinking and drugs. He was lucky.

One of the most underrated all around musicians in rock IMHO. Fantastic guitar/slide player, singer and song writer.

James Gang Greatest Hits, The Smoker You Get, and So What albums were in constant rotation in our smoky college dorm rooms in the early 1970's and I still spin my original vinyl often.

Rocky Mountain Way is one of my top 10 favorite songs.

Regarding his drinking I saw him play two shows on March 28,1990 at Toads Place, a small club in New Haven, CT.

Joe was so drunk he could barely stand up and was drinking something with orange juice throughout both shows.

While he was slurring his speach and wobbly on stage, incredibly his guitar playing was stellar. He did break out a trombone at some point and was funny as hell with his drunken in between song commentary.

Hope I get to see him live one more time before we both get too old.

On the above video on Rocky Mountain Way I think that is a double cut away Les Paul Joe Walsh is playing on must of the song.  I've only seen one musician with one and he didnt play it long.  Apparently Gibson only made a few.

The Les Paul Standard DC was a regular catalog item for Gibson in the early 2000's and you can find them on ebay often. There is a bunch for sale on eBay right now so don't think they are all that rare as the used ones don't command a premium.

I always wanted one. Maybe someday
