He has a new Hammond B3 player. The kid is incredible & looks like he's about 18.
First time I saw Marcus live and enjoyed it. I don't care for his voice but it works well with his songs if that makes sense. At least to my ears.
I caught Marcus last Friday in Eugene. I'd never seen him before and I was very impressed with him and his band. I never cared for his vocals before, but now I think he's a really good singer. I also like his songs and songwriting, but it's the guitar playing that really floors me- the kid can play and has a very original style- although the various Allman Brothers guitarists seem to be his greatest influence. Hot 'Lanta was awesome! Also, is he related to Warren? I think Marcus could be Warren's son!
Yeah he covered it last night & the crowd got very excited hearing the first few notes. Lot of Allman, Derek & Warren fans were there.
He's covered the ABB & Tucker a lot in his Live performances.
I'd for sure go the next time he comes to town. Neptune Theatre was packed.
I also really enjoyed their version of the Buddy Guy/Wiilie Dixon medley (Just Want to Make Love to You/Hoochie Koochie Man. The band really went nuts on that one and they gave it a really funky bass line. I enjoyed the drummer Jack Ryan especially, too- he's a fatback drummer in the tradition of Bernard Purdie and Buddy Miles. The rhythm section and horns have a Stax Records/Booker T/Memphis Horns influence that I really dig.
Above all, it made me very happy to see a young man and his band play some real music. So much "modern" music really, really sucks. The audience also had a lot of enthusiastic young people and women, way different that the usual old fart dude jam band crowd. Keep going Marcus- we need more blues guitarists!!!!

Agree, Jack Ryan is a great drummer. Bass player and horns really know how to cook too.
The sax player also played Pedal Steel on several songs Tuesday night. Not sure I'd ever seen a sax player sit down and play pedal steel.
I also enjoyed the Buddy Guy/Willie Dixon medley and you could tell how much fun the band had playing it.
Got a ticket to see them at Manchester Academy 3 on the 26th Feb along with Darren.
I really like Marcus , but his recent release to me, seems to be to heavy handed/influenced by the musical styling of Dan Auerbach. Not a big fan of his.

The first time I saw Marcus King was during the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam in 2015 where I saw him at different venues. I was struck by his guitar playing and also by how good his band was.
I missed the last Brooklyn Bowl shows he did but caught the most recent show he did at the Beacon Theater. I think the branding is all about Marcus now as opposed to the band. While I enjoyed the show, there is a sameness about the music that grows tedious after a while. I think he recognized this which is why he is attempting to shake up his sound with the new release.
He is still very young and let’s see what happens in the next several years.

In the past few days I've heard him on Sirius/XM's the Spectrum channel (which I don't typically listen to but the wife digs it) and also on CBC radio out of Newfoundland, Canada. On CBC the dj commented about how talented Marcus King is and that anyone looking for a young gifted guitarist, songwriter, and singer should check him out...I thought it was pretty cool to hear him on Canadian radio.
He was here a week ago playing my favorite club, I really wanted to see him but wasn't going to pay the $100+ ticket price... I was very surprised it was so expensive.

I was saying to my wife just the other day that he’s currently in rotation on Spectrum, Outlaw Country, JamOn, and Bluesville. Rather remarkable.
