@bill_graham Jeff became dissatisfied with Les Pauls and Strats a number of years ago I recall from a guitar player magazine. Jeff had shifted to Ibanez guitars and talked about that in the interview. He chose Ibanez because that brand was favored by some of more noted heavy metal and hard rock guitarists.
It was about 24 months before I saw Jeff again and was expecting to see Jeff playing a hot rod Ibanez but to my surprise Jeff played a Stratocaster and don't recall ever seeing Jeff with an Ibanez.
Steve Vai is a big Ibanez player and so is Joe Satriani, two of the best firebrand shredders in the world.
Here is a man who claims the middle pickup on the average Strat can give you a way cool tone you simply can not find on a Telecaster, Les Paul, SG or ES-335.

@robertdee Yeah Jeff was old school so can't picture him playing a Japanese superstrat.
I have seen Joe Satriani several times and he is more than just a shredder IMHO.
I have 4th row center tickets to see Joe and Steve Coheadline at one of my favorite concert venues the Boston Orpheum theater this summer. It is the Boston's version of the old Fillmore East I think. Great small old school theater to see a concert
Joe used to be Steve's guitar teacher and they are still close friends.
Here is an interview with them both where they talk about the tour and that they wrote new music together. Should be a night of epic guitar playing

Modern Tone King Royalist MKIII combo amp. It is an updated EL34/ 12AX7 1964-70 Marshall switchable tone.
Very cool features including independant attenuators for each channel which would come in handy for low volume practice considering it has a 40W output. Does weigh 60lbs though so would be a load to carry around

@bill_graham Water can do major damage to guitars! Here's a deal on a 1978 Gibson Les Paul - pre-relic'd!. Personally, I'll pass!
@rusty Yikes!, that is some serious water damage.
The cosmetic damage would not bother me as I think it adds character but the structural damage is concerning.
Might be worth the risk buying for $500 if a good luthier could fix the structural issues for another $500 or so, but can't see why anyone would pay $1600 for a Norlen era Les Paul with that much water damage.
Guess people think any vintage Les Paul is worth a lot of $$$.
@bill_graham The seller considers this guitar to be in "FAIR" condition! Fairly dilapidated would be a better grade!
I'd be afraid to even risk $500.00 on this particular guitar. I don't know if Gibson could remove and replace the neck or not. Even if they could, I'm sure for the cost (purchase and repair) you could get a much better guitar elsewhere.
