I would say over the last 10-15yrs there have been a lot of boutique tube amps hit the market. Most seem to be  of the low  wattage affair, but some big boys too.  I received and email notification today from CME about one of these. So I clicked on the link and it took me to their page, RYRA amps. Never heard of them.  Its just hard for me to swallow that a 5 Watt  1x8 combo is worth 1,299.00 and the next step up in this line is a 14watt 1x12 for 1,990.00.  There are others also with these crazy prices. I am sure they are nice, but for that? There is a reason why I never ventured into that arena. Way out of my league.

Thoughts?

I guessing some of the high cost has to do with handwiring  construction as opposed to PCB mounted component mass produced amps. Component quality adds cost especially in the magnetics and speakers which by themselves could add $2-300 for the parts.

Also if the hand made amps are Mfg in the US or other higher labor countries that will add cost as opposed to them being made in China

If you want an example of the cost of a 5W amp this Mojotone handwired kit gives you an idea and that is without a cabinet.

https://www.mojotone.com/mojotone-ga5-combo-amp-kit?quantity=1&kit-options=Assembled%2520(No%2520Cabinet)

When you add the cost of a cabinet $264 to the $574 prebuilt kit you get $838 retail for the Mojotone Gibson GA5 reissue

https://www.mojotone.com/Mojotone-GA5-Style-Combo-Cabinet_2

Now Gibson sold GA5 reissue made in China amps originally for about $700 many years ago that are basically the same as this Mojo amp so I am guessing the amps you mentioned may be handwired in the US which will increase the Mfg cost significantly.

Also due to supply chain issues some components have increased in price significantly as I work for an Audio company and component costs are through the roof so this may be part of the high price.

Take a look at what vintage amps are selling for on eBay these days and you will see that there are no cheap hardwired amps amps anymore.

I bought a Fender Deluxe 1975 Silverface amp in excellent condition for $800 about 10 years ago. The same silverface amp goes for $2000 these days and the new Fender reissues, which are not handwired but pcb based, retail for around $1500.

The price of the amps you linked are a tad high but not excessively so IMHO for a US hardwired amp using quality components.

Are they worth the cost? depends on if you value the extra cost of having a handmade in the U.S. guitar amp. There are plenty of less expensive options for PCB based made in Asia that may be good enough.

Reminds me of how much more expensive made in US Fender guitars are compared to Made in Mexico or Asia. You pay for the Made in USA sticker.

I own 2 Lil Dawg tweed amps. Both are a 5F4 circuit. One has 2x12 Weber Alnico's the other just a 1x12 Alnico. Both are 25 watts. I had the first one built with 2x12's then wanted something similar with 1x12 for small venues. Great amps. The guy uses some of my youtube vids as demo of his amps on his website. I have no financial deal with this company, I bought both my amps that he built. He asked if he could use the vids off youtube and I said yes.

Jim, the owner, can build you any type of amp you want. He doesn't just do tweeds. He can do any circuit...might even be able to replicate a dumble...I didn't ask but he's got serious skills

I get the whole made in the USA thing, hand built, etc stuff where you are gonna pay more. Some seems a little excessive to me, just my opinion. I guess I have always been thrifty, maybe cheap to a degree and not a gear snob.  I wonder if there are any major players who endorse these "boutique" amps.....recording , touring etc....

@jszfunk I like the tweed sound and to purchase an original fender tweed with the same circuit(a Super) would probably cost double what I paid. Not to mention what issues will it come with being 60+ years old. As far as made in USA...I don't really know if Jim uses all USA parts of not. I didn't ask and for me it wasn't a thought at the time. I wanted a tweed circuit amp that I could gig with at about 25 watts with Alnico speakers. So that is why I bought these 2 amps.
