Gregg on cover of new Guitar World

All good. Shame about the mags being ripped up...
I would have liked the 25 to be less predictable but I think more than a list, the three of us honestly did a pretty good job illuminating the songs and trying to put them into some coherent order. I'm just glad I could pull off what I did from Hong Kong!
You guys did a great job and enjoyed each songs write up. Amazing list for your readers who are not all the ABB die hards that we are here. We are a "special" bunch. 😛
Now for the future article on the Top 25. You can just use us to do the research for you - cuts some of your work and we are free. 😉
Now please tell me that you were not the guy who put the mailing sticker across Warren's face. I think that guy is sniffing the glue on the stickers.

Can you imagine the arguments that would cause here? 😛

They can run the article following Al's Cover Feature of the Guitars of the Allman Brothers Band.
Duane
Dickey
Gregg
Les (side bar)
Dan
Warren
Jack
Derek
Jimmy
then the Live 25
Now there is a good 12-16 pages of ABB for you. LOL - Fantasy Edition of GW.
Or list each guitarist's Top Live 5 with each person individual write up.
😛

When will it hit newstands? I went to Books A Million today and it's not out yet, they still had the one with Lindsay Buckingham on the rack.

I would love to do a Guitar World one shot magazine featuring all of that.
It is out now but distribution is uneven... should be everywhere very soon... that's the best I can do for you!

Alan, Andy, and Jimmy,
Very nice job on the story on Gregg and the ABB top 25 song list. I thought that maybe the "Enlightened Rogues" album and Dan Toler would have been noted as the album went gold and Pegasus was nominated for best instrumental of 1979. Same with later mentioning Jack Pearson. Also "I'm No Angel" got Gregg back on the map as a solo artist.
Every song list of the top 25 sparks a discussion, while respecting peoples opinions. With that being said, I was surprised to see the songs Southbound, Can't Lose What You Never Had, High Falls, Pegasus, Good Clean Fun, True Gravity, End of the Line, Kind of Bird, Back Where It All Begins, and Desdemona not on the list, or at least some of these on the list. Thought that the list was a little light post "Brothers and Sisters", with the first 5 albums from 1990s and Hittin' the Note. Just my opinion and again, thanks for the Gregg article and song list.

Paul,
You put your finger on the crux of our disagreements, though honestly only a few of the songs you mentioned were really fought over. I agree with you in principal, but do you think people are going to be playing Good Clean /fun in bars in 25 years? I could go through every song you mentioned and come up with some reason like that... but the fact is, they have more than 25 indelible songs... I really thought something from HTN should have been on there and if I could do it again I'd take that to the mat, but hey happy to have it in there... and blessed that I get to call arguing with two good friends about such things "work."

Back to this. Is it available?

Alan,
They are all good songs except for the 2 albums from the early 80s. We could have a top 100 songs with that band. Thanks!

Hard to narrow to 25 and we all have opinions and favorites.
That said 😛
Statesboro is listed too low - Radio staple and signature ABB song. Their chance to show that they don't need 20 minute songs for magic.
I would have wrestled to include Southbound and to a lesser degree Pegasus. No Southbound?
Just teasing - sort of. 😉

Well, I'll tell you something funny: we argued and fought and wrestled for a week... and then realized we had forgotten Statesboro blues! So something had to come off... Southbound is a great song but to me it's more generic than most of the others.. in the sense that someone else could have written it. Not the case with most of them... that's my 2 cents on that... Remember that for anything else to be added something would have had to come off...

Agreed, perhaps the best tune from '89 >>>>>....

Thanks Al!

Alan,
Thanks for the great article & write up on the songs. I really enjoyed it.
One thing in particular that stuck out was the statement about Dickey's solo in one way out...
I'm paraphrasing cause I don't have it in front of me but the gist was that it could be argued that it represented perhaps the best Les Paul / Marshall tone ever... I got goosebumps reading that because I believe that to be true to my core...
