Anyone know anything about this one? Is it just an official 31st of February tracks release?

Holy makarel, can’t believe this is being reissued - think it has the original Melissa, but it’s mostly raw demos - was a 99 cent-er in the cutout bin back in the day

All of those album covers have been out before. The Hourglass Power of Love looks like the office release from 1968 to me. 31st of February material too. Buddy Kline produced most of the Allman Joys. All of those sessions were released after Brothers and Sisters became such a huge seller. They were trying to cash in on the success of the ABB by putting out these pre ABB sessions. Gregg didnt like it at all. Gregg didn't want that stuff rereleased and some tracks released for the first time. Gregg thought much of the pre ABB recordings he was on is garbage.

Gregg has said a few times that Butch continued to hold a slight grudge over the 31st of February as Butch felt that should have been the Allman Brothers. Duane and Gregg with David Brown on bass, Butch on drums , Scott Boyer on guitar, etc. But Gregg said his brother didnt take to it much and was going to quit even if Gregg had not gone back to LA to record for Liberty Records and finish off the Hourglass contract. So apparently Duane wasn't able to get behind the 31st of February. Duane didnt see it as what he was looking for. Liberty thought Gregg was the only one that had a chance. They weren't that impressed with Duane, Johnny Sandlin etc. Both albums were flops selling next to nothing and the 3rd album Duane was behind was rejected by Liberty and never released. Some tracks did make it on Duane Allman Anotholgy 1 and 2.

I have that too. There were some really nice cuts. I like the version of Melissa...a very pretty flowing version. Was redone years later similarly by Scott Boyer with the Decoys.

Liberties tastes are all over the map, they were big on Canned Heat back then or earlier, then kinda ignoring the Allmans. I don't get it.

I wonder if the Hour Glass releases will have the bonus tracks that some of the CD releases had?

jams and shows from back in the day.

People say there are tapes......

Johnny Sandlin had tapes. His wife was posting tracks on his Duck Tape Facebook page a while back as she was sorting his stuff after his passing. Here’s hoping for something new.

Wonder if the curators (sic) of these packages will expend any tangible effort on them?

Why does the press say that all of these are being "released for the first time on CD?" I have both Hourglass albums on CD, with bonus tracks...?

Unreal quantum leap from the Hourglass in 1968 to Allman Bros debut in 1969. Tectonic shift. How that could happen in less than a year is a mystery. Just a powderkeg of talent set to blow I guess.

I also noticed that with the Duane Boxed Set. The session work is going along and the songs are nice then BAM, an Allman Brothers song plays and it's a completely different Universe!

So do I. Got them at a used music store about 20 years ago for $5 each I think.

By the time the Allman Joys, 31st of February, Hourglass tracks were being released and much of the Hourglass being re-released, Duane had pass away and Gregg didn't want that stuff released. Said none of those bands had the right chemistry and had no chance of making it...plus the record lables tried and did control what songs were done and very few of their original material songs were allowed and Gregg said when Liberty rejected their 3rd album in it's entirety. This album was recorded at Muscle Shoals incorporating songs the band wanted to do and when Liberty found out and heard it, it got the thumbs down. A few tracks did find their way to Duane's Anthology albums.

Gregg also was negative to the point of being embrassed about the bonus tracks that included tracks he recorded solo for Liberty after Duane quit Hourglass and the band broke up. Liberty didn't care as they thought Gregg was the only one in the band that had a chance to go anywhere.

When Duane got that historic jam going in Jacksonville, Reese Wynans was on keys and none of the guys had played with other guys who inspired them like that. Duane inspired them and they inspired him. Phil Walden had asked Duane to put together a trio similar to Jimi Hendrix or Cream. Duane recruited Berry Oakley and Jaimoe and did an album at Muscle Shoals but realised it wasn't going to work. BTW, Jaimoe was very uncomfortable in the studio, his first time, so Johnny Sandlin former of Hourglass, played drums.

Gregg was invited to join and replace Reese for his singing and song writing and Butch said the chemistry was unlike anything any of them had experience. Butch said it was if the gods said you six are to play music together.

I always felt the reason this incredible change in what Gregg and Duane had been doing with other bands, was the influence of those who were thanked on the first album for "Immoral Support" Smile

Press release hype, to generate interest in marginal releases that look to be over-priced and poorly packaged.
