I don't see Gregg's death on Wikipedia and Google news. May he RIP. Good drummer. Apparently was 67.

I saw where Brett Tuggle died a few weeks ago at age 70. Keyboards for Fleetwood Mac and David Lee Roth.

I'm almost as into drums as I am guitar players. I enjoyed all the samples Gregg played of those drummers.

One was Joe Morelo who was technically better than everyone Gregg played including, with all due respect to Gregg, Gregg himself except Gene Krupa and Steve Gadd.

One thing these old technical pros do is most of the time, but not always, they hold the left stick in tradition grip and NOT in matched grip as Gregg did and Butch Trucks. Well most rock drummers.

Watch the left hand of the late Joe Morello!

@robertdee I can't find any news of Greg Bissonettte's passing.  He has been the drummer in Ringo's Allstarrs for several years (I was scheduled to see him ... three times - for the same show!).  I hope that this is a misprint?

EDIT:  Greg's birthday is June 9, 1959 - so this information is wonky to begin with.

@rusty I couldn't either earlier. Hope it's a big mistake. I just looked at Gregg Bissonette's Wikipedia page again several hours later and it has Gregg still alive. And nothing on Google News.

It's looking more like a mistake. Hope so.

All the better if he's still alive then. I liked his video, though his examples all sounded like him somewhat, and he only had a couple swing era guys, a classic era for drumming. I could throw in a couple more, more Duane friendly guys than Krupa or Rich, I think. First, an Alvin Burroughs, just fantastic. Plus the wailing trumpet and tenor solos, it's not hard to picture Duane playing them, especially that fantabulous trumpet solo. So fantastic.

Next a Big Sid. What can you say? Plus Ben Webster. Of all the guys who put out feelers to play with Duane, except for Clapton, I wish Ben and Duane could have got together.

I'm trying to remember that quote Duane said about drummers and loving the back beat and maybe ending in, "Jesus  Damn."

@tenorsfan Gregg Bissonette's Wikipedia page again has no reported passing. And nothing on Google News. Apparently this is a mistake and Gregg is still with us. Gregg played drums on David Lee Roth's first three solo albums.

Rock Hill Special by Lionel Hampton and orchestra is a fine piece of music. Hampton also played drums and was a great drummer. But he played drums on a small portion of his stage show. Most often Lionel was on the Vibraphone. And sometimes piano.

I read Duane's quote too years ago. It was something like...I love playing live with the back beat of them drums and that bass thumping down...Jesus God.

Those old big band/jazz cats back in that day were OUTSTANDING musicians. You can't catch them making a mistake. Squeaky clean.

Duane Allman would love the bass player here. And man is the bass man THUMPING!! Smoking that bass.
