I want to know the back story of this composition. It absolutely smokes in 2005. Still good later too - but not as extended or as intense as it was in '05. How did it get written? Was it easy to persuade the band to put it into rotation? Why did they abandon it for years - couldn't the band tell they were crushing it when they played it? Why stop?

I love this tune - it deserves more notoriety than it will ever get. Also, I still think of it as a "new" Allman song and it is now more than 10 years old.

Agree with you,I first heard it @ Spac in Auust 2005, it blew the roof off the house.. It supposedly came from a song the brothers played a few times that Oteil wrote called walk like a man??

Then song was originally Walk Like a Man with lyrics first played 8/1/2000. I think played one other time that tour then disappeared re-worked several years later emerged as Egypt.

That's great info - I didn't know the song had appeared in an earlier incarnation. Went through archive.org hoping Otelil and the Peacemakers might have played it on a show on the archive - no such luck. Anybody out there want to satiate my curiosity and put a version of the ABB doing Walk Like A Man on youtube or soundcloud or somewhere? Looks like it was played both 8/1/2000 and 8/2/2000 and that's it. A bit of a reach I know - but doesn't cost me anything to ask.

I remember hearing Walk Like a Man at their show in Toledo in 2000. I might have a boot of that show in a box somewhere. I also agree that the best version of Egypt is from SPAC in 2005, especially Warren's solo with a ton of wah-wah. Truly unique version.
