Agreed . I would be happy with Frankie, Mike and Pedro returning. As nice a guy as he is, Andy never moved me with his playing, like him much better when he plays blues covers with his own band. I would be thrilled with just The Cat in the Hat and Duane but if they want a third guitar let’s get a fresh face in there.
it will be interesting to see what role Duane Betts now plays in Dickey's comeback. Will Dickey hand off the reins of the heavy lifting to Duane, or will he try to play the same parts he previously did? Can Dickey get up to game day playing with such an extended absence? Will he even try? Or is this just a test to see what he may or may not do going forward?
I have a feeling that Duane has heavily influenced his return and will step up far more than we're used to seeing, and IMO deservedly so. His playing and stage demeanor has clearly demonstrated a "coming out" if you will that I had not seen previously. Perhaps being out from his father's shadow has something to do with it.
It will be interesting to see how this goes down. I wouldn't be surprised if much of the Great Southern band is there, many of them are in Florida already and I am not aware of any meaningful obligations they may have. I think we'll see lot's of cross pollination with Mule and maybe some of Duane's new friends too.
Dickey is scheduled to be in Boca Raton, FL in early May. I will look up info and post. I just saw it on facebook.
Just bought my ticket for the Boca festival which is 10-15 minutes away from me. Really excited for this. I bought a ticket for the Devon Allman Project at B.B. King’s before I knew about this but I am still excited about that show as well.
