Derek Trucks on Eric Clapton, Duane Allman & His Guitar Heroes | Bertcast # 726
Always nice to hear Derek chat. I've always found Bert to be a bit of a fratty clown who talks too much, but at least (unlike Marc Normand) he is well-versed in who Derek is.
Was Bert blasted on weed here or what? Reminded me of people I hung around in the late 60's and 1970's after they have rolled a righteous smoke, took a toke and spoke!! Or tried to speak!!
He forgot how to yawn???? That was classic bombed on weed. Classic.
I read an interview with Derek not long ago and he mentioned Duane Allman, Elmore James, Charlie Christian, B. B. King, Albert King, Doyle Bramhall 2nd and Eric Clapton as guitarists whom he admires and are big influences.
Dickey!!!!!!
Worth watching / listening to if you can stomach the hit or miss way Kreischer works out new schtick in a live setting.
I had to bail at the end when his wife? joined in and tried to be funny too.
@islalala Disappointing to me was Kreishler talked about himself as often as he asked Derek a question. Derek did though get to answer many of the questions and I heard some things I didn't know.
For example Derek talked about his father being a middleclass man employed as a roofer who didn't play music but loved the Allman Brothers Band and Derek and the Dominoes. That Derek was allowed to bring his dad and family to an Eric Clapton mansion and sit and enjoy time with Eric Clapton in this huge swanky house, clearly the digs of a multimillionaire ( according to Forbes, Clapton is worth $450 million dollars!!!) and Derek had to think about what an interesting setting as he remembered his dad is just a middle class roofer.
Another was the Gregg Allman funeral. And the people lined on both sides of the streets all the way from the funeral home to Rose Hill Cemetery. A very moving sight and a reminder of just how famous and how much Gregg Allman meant to the hundreds of fans who lined the streets that far.
And Derek relating he was riding with Dickey in the funeral procession with Dickey's son and after seeing people one after the other all the way to the cemetery, Dickey said to Derek " I guess these people really did care about what we did".
And Derek mentioned his great uncle Virgil Trucks. I remember Trucks as a pitcher with a late 50's New York Yankees team which had Mickey Mantle as the star player.
Also I remember Virgil " Fire " Trucks as a coach after he retired as a player for the Atlanta Braves.

Same. She wasn't even mic'd for part of it. I also had to skip his annoying "forgot how to yawn" or whatever story that Derek patiently nodded through until it was finally over. Also, making Derek listen to Creed is next level stupid. So yeah, mixed bag, got Derek to tell some stories in spite of Bert being there. I mean, this is a guy known for doing stand-up shirtless and the inspiration for Van Wilder.
