Hef plays guitar and not a single post?

DP kicking ass.

Groovin' people dancing and not one comment.

More posts in the WP than about actual music on here.

The forum ended before the band did apparently.

Groovy...:)

This is the first color footage that I remember ever seeing of the Mk I lineup. And watching Blackmore givie Hef a quick guitar lesson was a hoot.
They did rock on this though...:)

Thanks for posting these CM. I have had this on a bootleg DVD for years now and it is my favorite clip on the whole bootleg.

Love seeing the outfits these guys wore back then. Interesting to see Ritchie Blackmore playing a Gibson ES guitar instead of his signature Fender Strat.

Imagine if this version of the band had continued and Gillan and Glover had not joined shortly after.

Love these old Playboy After Dark clips as they are such time machines into the 60's culture I was too young to experience in person.

A video of Rod Evans era Deep Purple? How cool! I must give the Award for Worst Hair to Nick Simper, bass.

Purple was already great then, but no surprise really. Still not great enough for the Rock Hall, though.

Most here would know, but vocalist Rod Evans was let go by Purple because they wanted to be more metal and less popish. He went on to front Captain Beyond, a great band whose incredible debut, "Captain Beyond", was produced by Johnny Sandlin for Capricorn. Captain Beyond was certainly not a "pop" band by any means! That first record really rocks and the second one is very good as well. Oh, the music biz...........if they had only been promoted properly...........what could have been.

On a side note, I think Evans was a really talented dude who should have gone places. When I was 27 and living in L.A., my roommate was dating Evan's ex-girlfriend, who looked like a Playboy centerfold. She had never heard Captain Beyond and was REALLY impressed when I played it for her ("maybe I should get back with him"). She said that after being dumped by Purple, Rod eventually soured on the biz and became an x-ray technician.

Thanks for the post James, I loved it.

Tell me, because I want to know - on what stations did Playboy After Dark air?! It
certainly never was shown up here in Canada.

I asked the same as I only had a vague memory. Check the Fleetwood thread for some more info. The list of episodes is great.
