David Letterman & Warren Zevon

As often as the Allman Brothers appeared on The Late Show in the 1990s, one of the coolest David Letterman/Allman Brothers-related moments didn't even include the Allman Brothers.
A music-lover with great taste, Letterman often featured some great musical moments that he clearly honestly appreciated. One of his recurring guests was Warren Zevon, who filled in whenever Paul Schaeffer took a holiday or was working on a Blues Brothers movie. So when Zevon was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer, Letterman gave him a spot light episode. Here's the finale from that show, and apparently Zevon's final live performance.
Years later after Letterman announced he was stepping down as host he got a nice parade of well wishers and tributes. This included up-and-coming LA band Dawes, a band that Duane Betts had hitched his wagon to, who agreed to perform Zevon's tender "Desperados Under the Eaves". Really nice music moment.

I like Dawes. It was while with Dawes, Duane Betts seemed to me to come into his own as a guitarist.
I wonder why they didn't stick with Duane? Duane was in their touring band for a good stretch but when You're Favorite Bands came out Duane was on it.
And don't be fooled. The singer guitarist can play a real tasty guitar solo when he wants too.
