Beautiful Article from Alan Paul on the 50th Anniversary.

Yes great interview. 50 years since we lost the most exciting and hottest guitar player EVER in the Allman Brothers.
Dickey Betts was a close second back in the Duane era. They were fantastic together. All six of them were fantastic. And they played like that because of Duane.
We had some great versions of the ABB, some better than others but none like the original band and that is because of Duane.

Thank you.
Was coming up here to share.

Read it this morning when I got the email from the blog.
Great piece!
btw I'm enjoying the blog

@stormyrider Thanks. I'm having fun with it. have debated adding a pay tier and putting in audio and/or going on a regular a schedule, maybe every Friday. But I like just posting what I want when the spirit strikes me. I'm very busy with a new book project. At some point, I may get more formal with this.

Nice article. I found Thom Doucette's comment about Butterfield and Bloomfield interesting. I don't understand what he meant by them "wasting one another". I'm curious what he meant.

@steved That's exactly what he meant. I guess I could have made that more clear. He believes that Butterfield and Bloomfield tried to outdo each other in a way that Duane and Dickey never did.
The next line in that quote: "Duane didn’t have that head-cutting mentality. It was just the opposite; he had his arms wide open to everyone.

@alpaul can you say what your next project is? (or maybe you already did and my memory is not what it used to be!)

@jimsheridan I'm not quite ready to be specific but it's ABB-related and focusing on the 70s. I'm digging pretty deeply into areas that were touched on in One Way Out. I'm really excited about it and can't wait to share more info.It will be out summer 2023, and I have a lot of work to do to get it done in time. I know that sounds like a long time but its not with the slow pace of publishing I have to be wrapped up a year in advance.

This may be the hottest guitar interplay of ANY Allman Brothers performance I've heard from ANY lineup.
Duane and Dickey ON FIRE! Turn it up!! And not like Butterfield and Bloomberg. Duane and Dickey are working as a team.

Thanks fellas. I kind of figured that was what he meant. I wonder if it is a friendly competition or if someone is really trying to be the "best".

Respectfully and correct me if I'm wrong, but the guitar player in the story looks like Dickey Betts to me?

Are you referring to the 1st photo, back lit in yellow stage light? That's definitely Duane's profile.
