Guess I'd rather have an awful beat-up guitar than a beat-up awful guitar!

IMO - this is a result of abuse and negligence!  I hate the idea of those pre-stressed brand new guitars!  You can't make or sell pre-fab mojo!

I'm 100% with you.
And they charge premium prices to make them look "road worn" or "reliced".   Sometimes I wonder if that isn't just a way to make guitars that are "B" standard finish quality, become desirable instead of scrapping them.

I used to work for a huge aluminum compamy.  One of the products was wheels for semi trucks and trailers.  Any that got scratched during manufacturing were put in a giant piece of tumbling equipment with ball bearings.   After tumbling for some time, they were ready to be sold at a premium as "satin finished".

My 1976 Westminster acoustic.  Sounds great except when when I pick C (first fret, 5th string).  My fat fingers always make a buzz.  Had to believe she's almost 50 years old.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Trigger, owned by the man who inducted the ABB into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Willie Nelson

@robertdee I think this is the Rory Gallagher 1961 Strat sold last year for $1,156,793 / £889,400 / €1,068,956.

@crosseyedcat Wow!! And that Strat is beat up a lot. It's who owned and played it which makes it so valuable.

I got an Email yesterday informing me some new guitars are made to look beat up with road wear. And some think that makes them unlikely to get stolen while on tour.

Here is a 1954 Strat.
